At home playing one of the best recordings of Beethoven's Ninth.

Who else with F. Fricsay on that? Can't read the label well. Early 50's?

Beethoven's Ninth is a great choice for NYE (as is, in a somewhat different vein, "Die Fledermaus").

I am playing Korngold's masterpiece right now. Marvelous. What a composer!

I am curious about his string quartets, recorded for Chandos by the Doric SQ and released September 2010. Have you heard it? The British press received it with glowing reviews. Doric SQ is British as well as the label, of course.

I finsihed ripping my HvK boxes while suffering through two NY football games last weekend. This weekend I'm going to start up Squeezebox, hit shuffle and see what pops up.

Shuffle play doesn’t work as well with classical for me. But I like the spirit! :righton:

And having them at such easy reach makes for a quick and easy selection in the future.

Thanks or the link. I agree that it sounds nice. A live performance by Kempff of that one is lovely - it's on BBC Legends.

Listening to this CD I picked up today. I have waited a long time to get a chance to hear Ms. Long's Faure so I am very excited.

I got a bunch more CDs (will post them all later), including the OOP Chopin Scherzi by Moravec. It's in excellent condition overall, just a few wrinkles in the booklet cover. I plan to sell it, as I already have a copy. Here's the info on it:

I have that set with a different packaging. I like the performances, but I'm not crazy about the SQ.
