I remember on the Amazon classical forum there were a number of knowledgeable dudes who spoke highly of Paul Jacobs. Have never heard him myself.

That's a lovely 2 CD set. I have often said that listening to Poulenc is like being at a Carnival. :D

George, I thought you already had all the Richter known to exist.

My collection of works by Handel is similar to George's collection of Richter recordings, I still encounter some occasional misses and that is life. You just try to remedy the situation ASAP ... :righton:

Does Nonesuch still exist as a record label? It was part of WarnerMusic, right?

Yes. Among others, John Adams, Richard Goode, Gidon Kremer currently on roster.

Speaking of whom, any else a big fan of Gidon Kremer? Favorite recordings? I think his 1980 Beethoven Concerto with Marriner/ASMITF may be my favorite. It was the first to use the Schnittke cadenza.

Sounds very good, but this is new music for me so I can't make any constructive comment.
It's the only Kodály I have.

Now playing CD5 - Symphony No. 5 from this set for a first listen. Goal for this long weekend is to finish listening to this set to make listening time for another 50+ CD's that are en route from the UK ...

the jacobs recordings have been reissued by arbiter and are well worth seeking out. in addition to contemporary music, he was very persuasive in debussy, busoni, etc...

Miraculous Mandarin was one of the early CD's I bought. Never could get into it and don't even own it anymore. I guess it was OK for a ballet score, but never found it enjoyable for listening.

My particular CD isn't all that either.
I got it from part of a collection for next to nothing.....so it's basically a filler till I get a better copy.

Well, I had an "audiophile" recording that the old Stereo Review recommended. Demo-quality sonics, they said - and indeed it was. I just didn't care for the music.
