Is this the old packaging or is it a totally different recording?

There are two versions of Pictures at an Exhibition on this CD. A version by Karajan and the BPO and the Piano version by Lazar Berman ...

Concerto No. 2 is great ballet music. Used at least twice to my knowledge:

Concerto - choreography by Kenneth McMillan

Concerto DSCH - choreography by Alexei Ratmansky (I saw that one last month)

And Hugh Wolff once played piano for a cabaret review I put together.

I didn't know that. The beautiful second movement (Andante) must make for some very graceful ballet...
Do they try to tell a story, or is it all abstract?

Generally abstract, but much of it is quite funny.

Looks like this has one disc from the fforte and Gemini 2CD reissues and another of different recordings. I have the Gavrilov on orig. WG EMI, btw. Can't say I've really spent a lot of time listening to it, though. Scriabin is a work in progress for me, I bought it because I like Gavrilov. Sad what happened to the guy, he completely fell apart around 1993.

I've owned that box set, along with original Six-Eye issues, mix-seventies LP boxes and this version, a German transfer from 1991. I happen to think the sound of these transfers is quite nice:

One of the few stereo Walter/Columbia SO sets I own. Great old-school 'big-boned' Mozart. I have Mahler 2, too. I wanna hear the Bruckner 9.

the sound quality of my set is quite good.i am missing only the rehearsal
of Sym 36,& all of 37.(i know,it's mostly by M.Haydn.)i also have the earlier
    Columbia mono recordings of 25,28,29,35,39,40 & 41.
by the way,my CBS & Sony cds nowhere even mention that these are
Columbia recordings.always seemed wrong to me,and odd.i read that Sony
obtained world-wide rights to "Columbia" (except in Japan) in 1991,so
why not use it ? (i realize they used it later on-but why not from the time
    they had legal rights?)
