I have the same works by Janos Starker on RCA Red seal, which some consider to be of better performance ...

Perhaps you have a better way to avoid accidentally buying duplicates with this software. When you have a few thousand CD's, you do not always remember you already have something that catches your attention at the moment ... :sigh:

I presume this has much better sound than those released on RCA Red Seal ...

That would depend who did the mastering on RCA. I know Marston did a lot of work for them.

Seth Winner did the one I have. (I always picture him cooking up bacon and eggs at full heat while doing his mastering) :D

Herreweghe started out as an understudy to Harnoncourt and Leonhardt back in the late 1950's when the HIP movement first began in continental Europe but I did not really follow him until about 2 years ago. I now have most of his Bach choral works in my collection ...

The problem is, nobody would consider it to be of better sonics...;)

Well, I consider better performance to be a more important attribute.

Are you looking for that Karajan Symphony Edition set?

Actually, I WAS looking for it, but there's too much redundancy here repertoire-wise (I had had most, if not all, of these symphonies in different and often better renditions even before acquiring the competing Bernstein set), so I would probably get it only under $50. More obscure music awaits.

I actually already had most of the recordings in that set before I bought the set. I just wanted to get the Complete Bruckner Symphonies, which by themselves would have cost more than this set. To be sure, I did not get a detailed booklet on the original Karajan's Bruckner set, but that is life. I also get the Karajan 77 Beethoven cycle, which I only have on LP. All in all, I am quite happy with the set given the price I paid ...

It is pretty amazing that with fewer than 20 regular participants, we have managed to put out 23,000 posts in how long now, 3 years?

And these "fewer than 20 regular participants" mostly made the Archive's Stickys (accompanied only by The Beatles). :shh: :pineapple:
