Kowalski is a necessary part of any war, or action film. He's a good lookin', tough as nails, men want to be him, women want to be with him, straight-shootin', son-of-a-gun. Gotta have a Kowalski.

In the car flick "Vanishing Point," wasn't Kowalski a veteran?

  5. And if the movie was made during WWII as a propaganda piece, there has to be a kid from Brooklyn in the platoon, too.

Kowalski is a Polish name. According to Wikipedia, it's the second most common surname in Poland and was the most common surname in Poland in the last century.

I think the name conveys urban, working class folk from an immigrant community.

I mean, who's more likely to be in the army. Private Kowalski. Or Private Lefèvre.

Marlon Brando's character in A Streetcar Named Desire was Stanley Kowalski.

Wasn't there a Kowalski in TV's Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea? I seem to remember he was like Kenny, killed one week, back the next.

    ?!! It's true!

Me 'n my friend John have a standing joke about the line, "Kowalski didn't make it!" in movies.

That's kinda like asking, "why is there always a guy named 'Paulie' in a Mafia movie?"
