    George,

Are you familiar with the ARCHIPEL label? Here are a few recordings by S. Richter I found on the Qualiton website ...

That is the sole CD I have in my collection on that label. I have the Beethoven sonata on Melodiya as well, the sound is very simliar, though the Melodiya sounds a bit less processed. The Archipel CD says "ADD MONO 24bit 96kHz."

    Aren't CDs 16 bits?

No. The Decca Legends series of CD's are billed as 24/96.

That would just be the bit depth and frequency range for the mastering stage. A redbook cd can't be anything more than 16/44.1

The Decca Sound 50 cd box set (seems quite good value on Amazon)

"A limited-edition 50-CD set of legendary recordings celebrating the world-renowned DECCA sound.

Classic-status pioneering stereo recordings from the past 55 years and starring a galaxy of internationally-acclaimed artistic talent.

Each CD is presented in a sleeve with original cover art.

Where an original release may have been of short duration due to limitations of the LP a bonus work featuring the same artists has been added.

A 200-page booklet documents the development of stereo recording as it developed in the 1950s through to modern digital recordings; there is an article on Decca artists and repertory with particular reference to the artists featured in the set.

Full recording information on each disc is included and there are numerous photographs."

Never got into Classical but my friend Sean Kelly has released 3 guitar CD's that are Classical influenced. His new one is coming out next week (13th) and is really good IMO. Here is a small clip of Sean with a sample of the music. What do you guys think?

Schubert's "cycle of terrifying songs," this version featuring a female voice and the anxiety-enhancing drone of the hurdy gurdy. Winter's Coming music for the Summer's Over holiday.

    Hummm that's like....false advertizing isn't it?
I know I ordered one and they gave a rash of crap from what I remember.
Something to the effect that they goofed or the like.
I guess online stores don't have the "we marked as -- and we hafta sell it to ya for that" policy.

The law is I think that they can withdraw from the sale until they actually charge your card. That's why Amazon rarely honour a mis-price if it's a big mistake, as they don't charge until shipped.

Bait-and-switch? The best price I have seen the Annie Fischer's set was close to $100.

OK - I'll bite. The label shows three conductors (Kempe, Kubelik and Giulini) for two works. Do two of them do two movements of the symphony apiece?

    :D

I have the Perlman/Giulini/CSO recording of the Brahms on a Spotify playlist, but I haven't listened to it yet. Their Beethoven was a standout though.

By the way, is that an Sony 775. Mine outlasted my 555 ES.
