So these aren't the Bee's Knees of PF's cd masters? Shoot. If you can, what cds rated an '8' and which mastering version do you prefer to it?

    My quick review -

The set sounds phenomenal and, from what I've listened to so far (I've had it a grand total of two hours,) the songs do not suffer from brickwalling of any kind. Here's a screen grab of the "Echoes" waveform.

That looks promising. Can you post the EAC peak levels per track? No doubt Vernon will want to update the discography.

    Wut :help:

That makes no sense. There's nothing re-channeled on Piper.

    But... it's lossy

So the CD isn't as good as the best vinyl, but the lossy DVD is almost as good. Not even a mention of the Blu Ray?

This is why I take audio reviews with a grain of salt.

And they made the assumption that all the masterings in the ObtW box were the most recent, which we know is not true. Really, I didn't get a sense that any critical listening went into that "review", and it didn't tell me much at all. :sigh:

Yep, this magazine is highly recommended. I have the Springsteen, Lennon, Stones and Who editions Uncut have put out recently and they're a great read

Awesome! Count me in for that (although we won't get it until about December here).

Here's an important follow up question. Can the stickers be safely removed from the shrink wrap and then be permanently affixed to the album cover art?

Not sure, but does anyone else other than me always keep the stickers? I usually cut them out and keep them somewhere in the packaging - usually in the liner notes somewhere. For CDs, I used to remove the tray, and display the stick on the back cover by sliding it in there before replacing the original back cover art and CD tray.

Ok, but could someone also clear this up for me:

What pressings are the currently sold remasters in EU?
Not meaning these new 2011 versions, Im meaning the previous ones.

Are those 1994 all or what?

Also, could anybody who has the new Discovery boxset, upload good big picture of some discs cover-art?

So do the EU 1994 pressings have each correct mastering as the US counterparts have?

(By the way, annoying really that cant edit posts here, once its taken enough time)

It's pretty thin shrink wrap, so I doubt it...

That Tone Audio Review is awful. The guy gets his OBtW box info totally wrong. I learned nothing about the new set.

I, for one, don't care about this mastering or that mastering in this situation. Since I barely have any of these albums at all on CD, I look forward to picking them up piecemeal over time ... First one? Maybe Ummagumma! ;)

(I judge with my ears, but that Echoes waveform does look pretty sweet! :righton:)

Thanks for all the info in this thread, folks!

And, also ... are the stickers ....

I just checked the US iTunes store to see if they had pre-orders set up for the remaster campaign ... no pre-orders, but all Floyd albums except Pulse and DSOT have been removed from the store ... I really hope the Immersion editions are available for download as I think this is the only way I want to get this material. Can't deal with all this faulty packaging, and there are the budget concerns ...
