Well, it seems that YouTube has been thoroughly policed and all the new deleted scenes have been taken down. At least I saw them while I could!

Same here... I just watched them the other day.... close call! ;)

I also just watched the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special for the first time yesterday (courtesy of YouTube)... I've heard for years about how painfully bad it was supposed to be, but nothing could have prepared me for just how excrutiatingly awful the show actually was. I'm a huge Star Wars nerd but I couldn't even sit through it!

    "youtube was our only hope."

    "No, there is another...."

I watched them on the youtube the other night too. Interesante. I was in Walmart yesterday and held the trilogy set in my hand. But no...not giving in to the Dark Side.

What would be really awesome for Star Wars fans (although probably not technically feasible) is to release the original trilogy in some sort of "branching" edition where you can program/select which of the tweaks & alterations you'd like to keep, and which scenes you'd prefer to leave as they were in the original versions. This would be a really great function, since Lucas' changes & additions range from actually not bad (eg. the minor touch-ups to Cloud City, the Sandcrawler model) to unnecessary but tolerable (eg. the new Wampa footage, the expansion of Mos Eisley) to downright ridiculous and idiotic (eg. Greedo shooting first, the Jedi Rocks musical number, the Sarlaac beak, the Blu-Ray "Noooo!!", etc....)

I'm sure a release of this type would make everyone happy.... but that's just wishful thinking. ;)

Ewoks blink, new CGI rocks in front of R2D2 and 'noooooooooooooooooo' yet the boxes around the TIE Fighters when the Millennium Falcon from the Deat Star is escaping in Star Wars (I refuse to call it A New Hope) are still there. Bravo Lucas, Bravo.

Not to mention the lightsaber colors in the original trilogy. Not that I condone it, but it seems oddly inconsistent to not just CGI all of the old light sabers so that they look consistent throughout all six films, but then fuss with all of that other crap.

I only just noticed that the random Cantina character that Marvel Comics based their early Jabba on in their Star Wars comic appears to the right of the frame as Han leaves the Cantina. The only real difference in his appearance is that he has hair on the top of his head in the actual movie.

That supports a theory of mine. I think there is a peculiar hard-core of SW fans (myself among them) who go into their first viewing of the Holiday Special with the expectation that, despite it's reputation, they will secretly enjoy it. After all, there is a lot of geek bait. Let's visit the Wookiee home world! Let's reunite the Star Wars cast! Let's revisit the Cantina! Let's see outtakes from Star Wars! Let's introduce Boba Fett!

And yet, no matter how much you love SW, the Holiday Special will inevitably kick your butt with it sheer awfulness.

Yeah, I finally made that connection too with my most recent viewing. It helped that I had recently re-read the comic thanks to getting a compilation of the old Marvel series at a closing Borders.

It's funny how you can watch these movies a million times and still find new things. For years, I've known from publicity stills that the bounty hunter Bossk was supposed to be in RETURN OF THE JEDI but I could never find him (Dengar is also there, but much easier to locate). Sure enough, I finally saw his fleeting appearance a couple days ago when I first watched my ROTJ blu-ray.

Maybe that's the real Jabba and the other one is Jabba's decoy.

Make sure to have your remote control's "pause" button handy! I'll check again, but my memory is that he appears on Jabba's sail marge moments before C3PO grabs the microphone and says "victims of almighty Sarlacc..." In any case, it's very near that moment. It's hard to get a clear shot, but both his face and distinctive flight suit are briefly visible.

I just double-checked, and I see him at 31:28, right before C3PO starts talking into the microphone. He is standing to the right of Jabba and a three-eyed alien, and to the left of C3PO (and partially in front of one of the Gamorrean guards).

I had been hearing about the bad SWHS for years, and finally broke down and watched it - with the ex-members of MST3K riffing away in the background.

Mike Nelson and other cast members of MST3K started an online store where you can buy feature-length riffs (RiffTrax), and the SWHS was one of the early ones.

I've never brought myself to watch the special without the RiffTrax commentary, as it does make the show a bit more palatable.

Nope the correct answer is Diahann Carroll, and no I'm not making that up. It is one of the most disturbing things they have presented in a family holiday special ever.

You watch it, at first you are thinking no way, then you think wow I think Art Carney is really implying what I think he is implying, then you think no they really can't be, then you watch what appears to be a wookie get off watching Diahann Carroll.

It's shockingly bad and inappropriate in so many ways.

Couple that with Carrie Fisher's coked-out performance, and you've got the essence of the entire decade in one show!

So, Diahann Carroll retired from acting to raise a Wookie family. I hope that goes better than Mrs. Spock. These interplanetary romances must be hard to keep together!

I wish I'd seen whatever show this happened on. :righton:

I've never seen it. They probably only show it on Channel Z in a galaxy that's far, far away.
