Aw big deal. I got the box at the library and it didn't cost me a cent. And I also have an extra square foot or so of space in my house you guys will never have.

I'll keep the box I purchased, thank you. Fortunately, I have plenty of the other square feet here free. :)

The canceling of orders has begun...

My Discovery box and others have been canceled by the 3rd party seller.

They claim that the items are "not in stock."

That's because of automatic pricing software that some sellers have...:righton:

I just got an e-mail explaining that it was a pricing error and cacelled my order. Fair enough.

    G'day,

That's my guess ... the automatic pricing software for two vendors got into a feedback loop and reduced the price to $0.01 for both, so the orders will be cancelled.

Although I've seen these feedback loops go in the opposite direction (e.g. CD prices of $500+ when other vendors are around $10) and one assumes that orders at those prices are cheerfully accepted.

Still, worth a shot, I suppose.

  8. My order summary still says "Dispatching soon - Dispatch estimate: 14 Nov 2011 - 15 Nov 2011". I expect it to be cancelled at any moment given the above experience, but there's still a chance!

This year's 2% annual reward check is due soon, so I may have to pick one of those up!

    Me too.

  11. Well, now my order has also been cancelled due to "automatic pricing error/out of stock". Aw, phooey. If you cant trust Paperbackshop1 to fill their orders, who can you trust? :)

I was being sarcastic Claude. Thinking back to older hall of fame worthy threads (Kinks Picture Box, Amazon megabox sale)

I've received three emails from the seller canceling and apologizing.
I feel so cheap and tawdry....

I was very close to ordering one of these myself a couple of days ago. I'm glad I didn't now. Amazon should crack down on this kind of activity by the sellers.

It looks like an error to me. What is there to gain by receiving and cancelling orders? The seller just risks getting negative feedback.

I agree- no grassy knoll here. It also costs the seller money to process and cancel the orders.
Looks like a harmless (but annoying) mistake- nothing more.
