The forum hates the 1998 remasters! You are the first one to say anything positive about the remasters that I have heard on this forum?

Iron Maiden should seriously release new good remasters on cd/vinyl and its been long call.
Deluxe editions with bonus cuts and all albums on black vinyl (been too long since any studio-album was made in black vinyl, 1998 when Virtual IX was released).

I can do with the old masterings...prefer them the most.

I'm really tired of every new vinyl release being a picture disc.:realmad:

I appreciate that. Maybe it is because my equipment isn't as good as most people here. I seem to enjoy a lot of remasters that are not well liked here.

I do agree with those who do not enjoy the way Metallica's Death Magnetic sounds, the clipping really annoys me.

Why all 1998 remasters sound so bad? Maybe something happened, when they added the multimedia content ;)

please release decent non-picture disc vinyl! I would also love to see Mofi take on a few titles like Number of the Beast and Piece of Mind.

My equipment is nothing special and the difference is huge between The very good sounding originals and the terrible sounding remasters, not to mention silly little details missing, ie the missing ending to Phantom Of The Opera on the Remasters etc

  17. The mastering between original Capitol (US) and original EMI (UK) CD's differs at least for the first two albums. The track list is also different by one song.

For the S/T, I prefer the Capitol (soundwise), and for "Killers", I prefer the EMI.

Agreed, and like I said, I am always up for better sounding versions. Iron Maiden is one of my favorite bands, and I would buy their entire catalog again if they came out with better sounding cds.

Well, I have the remasters and after I realised how much better they could have sounded, switched to buying the albums again on the original vinyl releases.

That said some decent remasters would be nice, better still some hi-res versions.

My only worry is that the label would just use it as an excuse to brick wall the mastering even further ...

Some of the recent Black Sabbath & Thin Lizzy Deluxe Editions were good.I have a few Dio Deluxe editions on the way from Amazon.UK.All these were remastered by Andy Pierce.I wonder if maiden have considered doing the same?

It really depends on the system they are being played on. On a smooth and accurate sounding setup, the old masters sound thin and lacking in slam against the remasters while on something that is slightly bright, the remasters can get to be a little too much.

Are the current versions the same as the mid-90s Castle versions?

No,they remastered everything in 98 and that`s what has been in print ever since.

Actually let me revise this a little, On a system with slightly recessed upper mids, the new remasters will sound better while the old cds sound better on something more monitorlike.

I like my remasters on HD600s while I like the old masters on DT250s among the headphones I am using now.
