Called "Direct" in 1979. First Direct Cut disc I had ever seen. Won it from local Canberra community radio 2XX.

I think Laughing Clowns Mr Uddich-Schmuddich Goes To Town was cut direct to disc as well.

    Must not
forget Penny Ikinger, guitarist from Wet Taxis. She's put out two fab solo albums. We released Electra, and Citadel did Penelope.

The Sports - Who Listens To The Radio

One of my all time favorite singles. Released in the UK on Stiff (and being a Stiff collectors I bought it not having heard it) but quickly loved it.

    Note catalog number

I've got the double CD 'This Is Really Something' Anthology on Mushroom

Here's original Aussie version of Who Listens to the Radio. The school girl in the clip is cult actress Gina Riley (Kath and Kim), the tall dude with peroxide hair is Phil Calvert, drummer with The Boys Next Door/ Birthday Party.

Is that version on the original Mushroom 7" single? I have seen a few pop up on the eBays and have wondered whether I should take the plunge.

Cummings in his book says that an American A&R guy told him that his problem with The Sports was that their songs had "too many hooks."

Really like The Saints and Radio Birdman. "I'm Stranded" is one of my favorite records of the era. Saw Radio Birdman in a small club just a few years back. Pretty decent crowd, and they still brought it.

Yep. Never issued on CD. Even the Mushroom Anniversary CD single is the Don't Throw Stones/Pete Solley re-recording.

The single version of This Is Really Something is a different recording as well but that single was withdrawn so fast even members of the band have never seen a copy.

a Little bit bright and compressed a little (due to using of remasters for some song choices) but its pretty good on the few tracks which make their cd debut here.

yea for pop music its good but of course there is the 70's pub rock thing and the alt rock scene from the 80's that this fails to capture but it is a good starting point.

Whoever mentioned Icehouse, I have their latest greatest hits album and I love it!

Did anyone discuss Radio Birdman yet? I discovered these guys in high school during my punk phase.

I used some of their material in a radio promo I made in an audio class for high school/college credits.
