I have never seen the HvK Brahms 4th recorded in the 1960's ...

A Deutsche Grammphon Gesellschaft would be the famous 1962 recording.

Did HvK ever record Brahms Symphony No. 4 in the 1960's? I am not sure if he did.

He recorded it in the 50s with the Philharmonia Orchestra. I have a CD I bought in the 80s with Lizst Les Preludes.

Perhaps he only recorded Brahms Symphonies Nos 1 - 3 with the BPO in the 1960's but not the 4th ...

Notice also the cover's big headline Herbert Von Karajan not the composer nor the work. Reminding one, once again of that silly DG promotion of a 'Karajan cult' .

Naxos North America is located in Franklin, just south of Nashville.they have
recorded a nice series of CDs with the Nashville Symphony, which is a very
    good orchestra.

    Deutsche Grammophon 413 979-1.this is a 1985 reissue of DG 2531 113,
    from 1979.recorded 11/24/78,Shrine Auditorium,Los Angeles.production:
    Gunther Breest.recording supervision:Hans Weber.engineer:Hans-Peter
Schweigmann.i also have this on a DG "The Originals" CD,which restores the
original cover & adds Schumann's "Manfred" Overture.i see this gets a mixed
reception, some thinking it too slow & even "boring".i can see how some think
it's missing in drama, but i enjoy the elegance of Giulini's approach.

It is interesting to see the BBC list. It is understandable there would not be very many recordings from the last fifteen years. I was pleasantly surprised to see a 2010 recording that I recently posted about. It is Alexander Melnikov's reading of Shostakovich's Preludes and Fugues.

Anything Giulini did is worthwhile in my opinion. During a search to replace Daniel Barenboim, the Chicago Symphony tried to woo him to be music director, but Giulini resisted due to his wife's illness. CSO musicians were genuinely upset, as they wanted him so much. He was known to conduct with complete respect for the musicians. I have found his deep reverence and affection is a part of every performance he did. Sometimes it can initially seem slow, but usually wears well over the long term. He died in 2005 and is missed by all.

Be sure to check out his Sony/Columbia performance of Ravel's Mother Goose Ballet as well as his Brahms 4th, which was something of a specialty for him.

Yes I was hoping that series would grow. Are they still recording it?

You are quite right. I cannot think of any truly memorable recordings made over the past 15 or perhaps 20 years ...

    Just been chilin' to:
Brahms Piano concerto #2 and Fantasia op.116
Emil Giles with Berlin P.O. conducted by Eugen Jochum.
    (rec) 1972/6
    DG Galleria 435 588-2

Actually I don't have his recording of the first piano concerto as I bought the Pollini that was one the first 20 Galleria cds to come out.
