Goya Dress - Rooms. Released in the late '90s to generally little acclaim. It was produced by John Cale and features the songwriting and vocal talents of Astrid Williamson. Beautiful and haunting stuff.

This is a lovely record. It has the great avant-garde alto sax player Marion Brown on it. IIRC he's playing Pharoah Sanders' Let Us Go Into The House Of The Lord.

Fay Victor is one of the few jazz singers that really matters these days.

Lazy Old Sun is from the days when she moved to Holland back in the late 90s /early 2000 . She actually does good interpretations of the Kinks' title track and the Doors People Are Strange. I hate when jazz singers cover pop tunes but she really does some great things with them. And they're cool tracks to cover. She's accompanied by a good quartet of guitar/bass/drums and Wolter Wierbos on trombone.

M - The Official Secrets Act.

A brilliant New Wave concept LP about a spy under interrogation. Not at all what people expected after "Pop Muzik."

You would have thought that would be the obvious choice but he actually plays on "Bismillahi 'Rrahman 'Rrahim" which he had used on his own Vista album from 1975. Budd himself plays on the Vista track.

You mentioned this one before and thanks to you I eventually picked it up - excellent album and not a second too long. :)

    Another goodie:

Produced by Calum Malcolm and therefore somewhat similar to The Blue Nile's "Hats", but a little less synthetic and all the better for it IMO.

Everyone needs to hear this album. It wasn't released for 20 years after it was recorded in 1991 despite being fully completed. It's amazing how many albums had similar fates back then.

    Two come to mind:

The Beach Boys - "Friends": No idea how this came to be so overlooked. This is one of the best things from the late 60's. Has aged gracefully too. Everybody that owns a copy of "Pet Sounds" should check this out!

Supergrass - "Road To Rouen": Different from anything they did, the French countryside has given their music a lovely homemade vibe. Terrific songs and lots of great playing too. Hard to categorize this album.

Didn't know too much about Beggar's Opera in the past. But when I did the remasterings of most of their albums last year, I got deeply into their music. And I REALLY became a fan of them...

Glad to hear it! If you haven't already tracked it down, I would also highly recommend Felt's Poem of the River (actually a six-track "mini LP"). Produced by Mayo Thompson, great stuff.

I've heard that It's Immaterial album before, but don't own it... nice recommendation! Will have to try and track it down now...
