Peeling the Torso Sticker on the Velvet Underground and Nico?

Has anyone tried it? I know people do this with the second state butcher covers. I doubt Ill try it but I am curious if anyone had any success with this.

 

I wouldn't! The Torso sticker is pretty rare.

 

don't do it. the thick adhesive on the sticker is bound to ruin what is underneath.

 

Ditto. Don't even try it! Keep in mind, third state butcher covers are more valuable than second state (peeled) ones. Your record is a historical artifact just as it is. Don't mess it up. Leave it as is.

Yep. I've seen a couple of examples where someone tried to remove the sticker and it was indeed a, uh, butcher job.

 

I once tried to peel the skull from the cover of White Light/White Heat. It didn't end well.

My copy has the top half of the banana peeled off and the half peel was then ripped off and stuck on to the middle of the front cover, and its adhesive has dried to the consistency of concrete and has bonded to the white cover like epoxy. Let it be.

 

I am going to let it be. I was just curious. I know some people with the Butchers cover have specialized in taking them off. I didnt know if this existed with the torso sticker. Man I really wish my banana wasn't peeled though.

 

Don't try it, I ruined one years ago. I didn't think it was going to be a collector's item.

And the mono mix of this classic is definitive. Love it's punch and clarity. It rocks better and hides the warts of the low budget recording sessions best.

 

I peeled off the mono on my copy, revealing the delicious stereo goodness underneath, and have never regretted it.

 

They stopped using the sticker once they had re-printed the back cover with the "torso" image air-brushed. This is what the reprinted cover looks like:
