The person that bought that ABBA disc spent over $2400 on three ABBA discs, obviously a collector with a decent income.

 

The seller ended the item early at $610.00. The red-faced Polydor CDs are very rare, but these prices are unbelievable .

 

Do ebayers even look on other websites anymore? The version with the same barcode is on amazon uk for 20 british pounds, and 2 other copies for 99 bp's each. I assume its the same pressing since the barcode matches and mediapearl always lists their items with the right bar code. And medimops has the same version on their site for 35 euros (they are the same seller as mediapearl)

That £20 copy is only UK domestic shipping.
Anyway It does not specify that its the red version.
It could well be the early silver Polydor version with the mirror band which has the same EAN. (Not to be confused with the later Polydor silver version without the mirror band.)

 

Just my 0.02 eurocent: not to nitpick, but the "silver" polydor and the "redface" polydor all share the same (800-011 2) cat number and probably barcode, so if it is not confirmed directly by the seller it's likely that mediapearl is selling the non redface disc.
Anyway a massive Abba fan could try!

I ordered a copy of Genesis' "The lamb.." from zoverstocks for less than £ 3 and it was the old mastering and mix. So, you never know

The red-faced Visitors CD is historically significant but not that rare. It shows up on eBay often enough. The copy that went for $1241 wasn't even in top condition.

I found my copy in the bins for $5 back around 2004. It wasn't in a smooth-edge jewel case, so I expected the later no-paint pressing. Nope.

 

Now I checked the amazon uk page again and one of mediapearls copies appears to have been sold (they had 2 copies for sale) and the sales ranking is now 16,881 in Music, I bet someone on this forum bought it. And I didn't know there was 2 versions of it with the same barcode, interesting to know, couldn't find that info while google searching the barcode number.

 

I actually feel sorry for the guy who paid $1,241 for this CD. With patience most of the red-faces can be obtained for a fraction of that price.
That's my experience anyway.
The Clapton and Who red faces have eluded me so far, but apart from that I have most of the others, and I didn't break the bank either.
I'm not buying the James Last ones. I draw a line in the sand with his stuff in any shape or form.

 

This one is also quite rare. Same EAN as the red-face.

 

That one has writing on it, which I think will severely compromise its value (or, on the bright side, might be a bargain for a less-picky collector).

 

The thing about backdoorman's CDs is that they are of such high quality. The condition enables them to command the premium prices.
