GREAT idea! Maybe new title should be: "List of records pressed on "secret" Quiex type vinyl" *NOT COLORED/CLEAR VINYL!

    Gorts?

I checked my REM records and Reckoning was a promo stamped copy, it is on quiex vinyl, probably would have never discovered it. What other promos that use quiex vinyl and are not arvertised with a sticker?

Warner Bros. pressed ECM titles - see though brown (Quiex)
A&M LP's from the 80's (KM pressing plant) clear blue
Windam Hill (KM pressing plant) clear blue
Natilus LP's (Teldec vinyl) ruby red under light.

As posted earlier, many, if not all U.S. A&M Records LPs from 1983 on were pressed on this dark, translucent vinyl.

This includes the early R.E.M. albums when IRS Records was distributed by A&M in the States. My copy of Reckoning is not a promo but it is on dark translucent vinyl; as is my 2nd pressing version of Murmur. The later R.E.M. releases I have are distributed by MCA Records, and are not translucent.

Interesting note: I double checked my 1st pressing copy of Murmur, and it is not translucent (maybe pressed before A&M switched over to the translucent vinyl).

Yeah, it's weird, I've got 3 promo copies of Murmur and a couple of others with out barcodes, and none are on quiex type vinyl, yet a later, barcoded copy is. Go figure....

The new thread title inspired me to look through my R.E.M. 12" singles. Of the 18 singles I have (ranging from the Murmur album, to AFTP), here are the Quiex ones:

    • Talk About The Passion b/w Catapault and Sitting Still. Promo. Green translucent
    • (don't go back to) Rockville b/w Catapult (live) Promo. Green translucent
    • Pretty Persuasion b/w (don't go back to) Rockville (edit) Promo. Green translucent

Seems they IRS only used it up until Reckoning....\

Maybe I'll check my 7" singles next. Anyone have any instances of 7" Quiex type pressings?

Looks like Quiex type vinyl was used on some 7" R.E.M. singles too.

Out of my 25 or so REM 7"ers, here's what I found:

    • Radio Free Europe b/w There She Goes Again (IRS Single). Brown translucent
    • (don't go back to) Rockville b/w Catapult (live). Brown translucent
    • S. Central Rain (I'm Sorry) b/w King of the Road. Brown translucent

Again, it seems only the earliest REM singles came this way.

I remembered yesterday that I had seen that a couple of my Surfing with the Alien copies were translucent like QUIEX pressing. I checked and a couple of them are definitely QUIEX and one isn't, none of them has any promo or different vinyl pressing info

Here's my question: is there Quiex II vinyl that's not translucent?

    I have a Quiex II pressing of Rod Stewart's Body Wishes, but I don't think it's see-through...

Hold it up to a really strong light source. If it's Quiex, you'll see light through it!

I guess the thread title change isn't working. It was worth a shot.

So until now...after this entire thread mind you...I've learned that the Classic label and Quiex aren't exclusive ???

I had no idea. Thank you.

Until tonight, I'd see that black & white sticker, and assume Classic.

    Hmmm...

Either I'm using a light source that's not strong enough, or...

The Body Wishes jacket I have (which is marked "Limited Edition Quiex II Pressing") got separated from the original lp.

What I've got looks like regular black vinyl.

Good call! :righton: After looking, it appears that all of my Factory US Joy Division records are translucent too. Same with all of my Factory US New Order records. Thanks for the heads up!
