I have a lot of George Harrison Dark Horse promo 45's and John Lennon Geffen promo 45's on Quiex as well as their promo LP's.
I'll have to pull them out and check how many I have...probably more than I think...
Never knew Paul's Press To Play was pressed on Quiex...gotta check that one.

Do these translucent vinyl records only apply to 1st pressings or early pressings?

I have The Beatles - "Hey Jude", 80's colorband issue, on translucent vinyl.

Also, almost all of the Monkees Rhino reissue LP's from the 80's.

    The Monkees
    More Of
    Headquarters
    Pisces, etc
    Birds
    Head
    Instant Replay
    Changes
    Missing Links
    Live 1967

The only one I have that is not translucent is "Present".

I'm sure I have others in the collection.. I'll keep checking.

The elusive "Press To Play" translucent vinyl LP is not listed in Perry Cox and Frank Daniels' latest price guide. However, it is listed in the "Errata" pages maintained on Frank's site. I bought my copy of the promo LP in the 1990s from a Beatlefest dealer who was not aware of the translucent vinyl version.

Thanks for the heads up! Checked my 3 copies of this record and two of them are secret Quiex pressings. Gonna have to check my other Geffen vinyl from that era.

Oh,So it's the promo pressing of "Press To Play"..That's cool.
Other than George's "Gone Troppo" and "The John Lennon Collection" those are the only translucent pressings listed in the new price guide.
I went through some singles last night and was amazed at how many solo Beatle releases were like this...I knew there were some but not this many.
There are more, but I only had time to check these..
I'm wondering how many of the later Capitol Beatle promos were also like these.

    George Harrison
I Don't Want To Do It Columbia promo & stock copies (red)
    Teardrops Dark Horse promo (brown)
All Those Years Ago DH promo (brown)
Love Comes To Everyone DH stock (brown)

    Ringo Starr
Heart On My Sleeve Portrait promo & stock (red)
    Lipstick Traces Portrait promo (red)

    John Lennon
    Jealous Guy Capitol promo (red)
Every Man Has A Woman Polydor stock(green) promo(red)
    I'm Stepping Out Polydor stock(red)
Nobody Told Me Polydor stock(red) promo(purple)
    Happy Xmas Geffen promo (red)
Watching The Wheels Geffen promo (clear)
    Woman Geffen promo (clear)

    Paul McCartney
All of his stock 45's I have on Columbia taken from the albums
Back To The Egg,McCartney II,Broad Street,Pipes Of Peace & Tug Of War
as well as the free give away 45 of Coming Up included in McCartney II
    Wonderfull Christmastime and Goodnight Tonight
    were all translucent Red
I have all of his Columbia promos ,but found it odd that most of the ones I checked
    were not translucent.
The following Capitol promo 45's were also translucent red.
    My Brave Face
    Only Love Remains
Seaside Woman Capitol promo not the Epic
    Stranglehold
    Press

I'm sure someone else can fill in the blanks for the ones I did not check...or ask me about a specific Beatle or solo Beatle 45 and I can check it...I have them, just needed more time...there are a lot of them...Hope the list is not too much,I thought it would be informative...I'm sure this thread opened up a can of worms sending everyone to check their collections...
    Very interesting thread topic.....thanks.

The McCartney stock 45's on Columbia are pressed on styrene and are not vinyl (virgin or otherwise). Styrene will appear a dark translucent red before a bright light source.

Cool. Are the two Quiex copies promos?

Actually neither of them are promos! Just copies I bought at random and checked because of this thread. This record is so plentifully available for next to nothing, I grab nice copies when I see them super cheap. I'm sure the secret Quiex copies of this are plentiful.

This thread has inspired me to dig through my collection in search of these secret translucent treasures. In light of the two copies of Peter Gabriel - So I found this week, last night I decided to check all of my Sire pressings to see what I could find. We can add these to the list (none of these are promos):

The Smiths - The Queen is Dead
The Ramones - Rocket to Russia
Talking Heads - More Songs About....
Talking Heads - Fear of Music
Talking Heads - The Name of this Band is....
Talking Heads - Remain in Light
Echo and the Bunnymen - Porcupine
    Neil Young - Trans
Thomas Dolby - The Flat Earth (Capitol)

    Keep 'em coming!

 Thanks. I've been meaning to pick up a US copy for the longest time but something else always gets my attention. I do have a Japan issue of So, which isn't Quiex, and the CD from the 80s.

One thing to keep in mind regarding certain "quiex" type records is that they can appear different colors depending on the light source. Here is a picture of the same record in front of a florescent light and in front of the sun:

Another one to add to the pile I found yesterday at a garage sale. Near mint.

Sonny Rollins - On Impulse! (promo copy) :shh:

Pressed by KM Burbank Ca. "Custom pressed on KC 569 blend premium virgin vinyl."

Transparent when held up to a light.

Wow, that's pretty weird. You say "certain "quiex" type records"; does that mean not all translucent vinyl appears as different colors under different types of light?

Btw, what is the lp you are holding up in the pictures?

I never knew about this until I read this thread. I just checked my gold stamped promo of this title, and when I held it up to the light, it was yellowish-brown see-through! Guess I got lucky when I picked this up for $5!

Most translucent vinyl appears about the same in either lighting.

It's a UK DJM pressing of Elton John's Honky Chateau.

I found two 45 RPM singles today in my collection from A&M that are translucent Quiex pressings. Both are Richard Carpenter singles from his TIME album: "Something In Your Eyes" w/Dusty Springfield, and "Time"/"Calling Your Name Again".
