Sorry I may have mislead or misread.

I have the 2 Disc "My Generation" in SHM-CD with alternate covers.
    Stereo and mono included.

    From the linked article:

"Universal Music have confirmed that this is NOT Jon Astley’s remaster and so will be different to what appeared on those Japanese releases. This new release appears to be a new remaster, with the tapes from Universal’s tape library ‘baked’ recently for the playback and mastering process."

This is all I need to see; I just pre-ordered.:candy:

I suppose it's just the CD version of the new vinyl to be released next month as part of the box.

Could it be what was used for the mono version of the "Who Sings My Generation" CD, the pink label one, that came out in the mid 80s?

Article says it's a new remaster, with tapes fresh, hot and flavorful from the oven. So....no.

    That's true.

Just thought that the prep date on the box may have been a clue. At first I thought about the Virgin UK LP pressing, but I think that came out in '79.

I've got the Classics version, Phases box, the Japan CD from a couple years ago and the horrendous Deluxe Edition. I don't need this but I may buy it anyway.

The word from Whitefang is that this new My Generation cd is taken from the same tapes that were used for the version that was in the "Phases" lp box set and will not be mastered at all.

I'm definitely curious to learn some reliable info.

Pristine master tape exists.... and they master it from a 1980 copy tape sourced from god knows what :wtf:

    Great job guys!

    yes,very upsetting.
i paid/ordered this 2 weeks ago, under the assumption they were using Talmy's mono masters.
it will probably sound worse than the 80's MCA version.

There's a tape motor hum/interference on that tape from the dupe process. Think it's only on the first 4-5 songs. Can't remember exactly. The tape was the property of Deutsche Grammophon.

I read this stuff and I can only shake my head in disbelief. Why ignore the best source in favor of a lesser source? How is that rational?
