Rolling Stones in Warsaw, 1967: Amazing new book

In April 1967, the Rolling Stones played 2 shows in Warsaw, with most of the tickets going to the children of the Communist elite who ruled Poland at the time. The working class kids were mostly unable to get into the shows, and there was some significant rioting outside the show venue. I've always been fascinated by the Stones' appearance in Warsaw during those dark days of the Cold War.

Now, a new book has been published in Poland that is filled with fascinating and mostly previously unpublished photos of those shows. The book also has interviews (in Polish language) with people who attended the shows. The deluxe "collectors edition" also contains a separate 40-page English translation of key portions of the interviews from the main book. Also included is a really cool envelope filled with fabulous in-concert photos of the Stones performing in Warsaw.

I braved the Polish website and was able to order a copy, which arrived today. It's fabulous, one of the cooler Stones collectibles I've ever encountered.

Looks pretty cool - I'm fortunate that I can read and understand Polish so i's less daunting for me.

 

I was going to post some pix from the box set, but apparently the SHFM software transition still won't allow pictures to be posted.

 

Could one of you be so kind as to run me through the procedure of getting this and the price for each edition plus the cheapest shipping option? I've always had a great fascination with this particular visit of theirs. The idea of getting photos from this is something that really tickles my curiosity in a big way. I can't read Polish and I don't want to take a chance of screwing up. I hope both books aren't too terribly expensive.

 

That Spring '67 European tour - their last with Brian Jones - was a really interesting affair; not only the Warsaw shows (a bit of which was captured on video - check YouTube), but also a great show at the L'Olympiad in Paris that was broadcast on French radio. Not to mention all the intrigue within the band with the Brian/Keith/Anita Pallenberg situation.

That was indeed an interesting period within the band and it's pretty amazing they played behind the iron curtain at the time.

 

Six days after, on the 17th of April 67, the Stones played in Athens but the concert was interrupted after only 6 songs because their manager started to offer red flowers to the fans. The police enetred and started to attack everybody. The band took the cashier and left. Wyman stayed in a hotel by the sea to enjoy the sun but after only 4 days the military coup d etat (67-74) happened and he could not leave the country. He left finally on the 23rd.

 

I don't speak or read Polish, either. I used an internet translator to decipher the Buy page.

However, I was not able to figure out which "shipping" option calculated the correct postage to the U.S.

So I simply paid for the collectible book/box set, which worked out to $62, and hoped for the best. A few days later, a woman at the publishing company in Poland emailed me in English and told me that I could either pay another 105 zlotys (about $35) via wire transfer for the postage, or she would refund my money if I preferred. She apologized that they did not have an English "Buy" page. I really wanted the book, so I went to my bank and did a wire transfer to the publishing company's bank. My bank charged me an additional $40 just to do the wire transfer, so this was not an inexpensive purchase....but it is totally worth the cost to me.

 

Thanks for letting me know about all of that. I may have to pass because my 4th Quarter is just really taking off on me. I wish Amazon was offering it.
