Any love for 'Rockin' by The Guess Who?

I've always loved this album!

I think 'Arrivederci Girl' is one of their best tracks EVER.

And I LOVE the cover of 'Running Bear'!

Love it now, in it's Iconoclassic glory. Back in what, '75 ? I was given a FREE copy of the vinyl, and I just couldn't appreciate it. I was disappointed somehow...wasn't the same Guess Who I had loved since 1968, in my Chicago youth.

The last Guess Who lp I bought back in the day. They were going downhill starting with Share The Land, too much goofiness and not enough Rockin'. By now, the only things I liked were Don't You want Me, Guns, and especially Your Nashville Sneakers. That was it for me--the stupid talking on Sea Of Love and the unnecessary cover of Running Bear sealed the deal for me. I didn't come back to Burton til The Dream of a Child.

 

Welcome! If I was at home, I'd pull it off the shelf and play it.

I paid 99 cents for my first copy in a cutout bin in the 70's..and I THINK it was the first Guess Who LP I owned (I'd bought 45s before that).

 

I ripped the CD to my cubicle computer here at the Salt Mine.

One of my favorite Guess Who albums...right up there with Road Food & Artificial Paradise!

 

Same with me, wasn't that happy with it back in the day when it first came out seems like it quickly went to the delete bins, but thanks to Iconoclassic I've been having a Guess Who / Burton Cummings revival lately and have been lovin every minute of it. I'm hoping Burtons 1st solo album gets the treatment soon as well.

 

Has there even been a group who got to release more albums directly to the cutout bins than The Guess Who? Pretty much every album after Share the Land was available in huge quantities in the cutout bins, and usually very soon after the release date.

 

I feel the same.

 

Rockin'...an underrated album, recorded in just a few days. Heartbroken Bopper...did The Guess Who ever rock harder?

The Iconoclassic is wonderful all-around. Faithful artwork, informative liner notes with comments from surviving band members, and bonus tracks corresponding to the same time frame. They set the standards high for reissues.

 

Bought it back in the day for 99 cents or something in a cut-out bin. This one went to the c/o bins right quick, in big numbers. Like Panda says above, the last Guess Who album I really liked, it has a few good songs on it but it IS patchy. I'm sure Iconoclassic has done a good job with the later album reissues, but I wouldn't spend more than a few bucks on 'em. That being said I haven't heard them properly in years, I'm sure there are some gems on them.
When are they going to reissue Share The Land and Canned Wheat? Now THOSE are two classic Guess Who albums that I'd really like to see Iconoclassic work on, even though I have the Buddha and RCA cds already.
They should really be in print!

 

I suggested to Iconoclassic that the Buddhas be redone. We'll see
They are good, if not a little on the loud side (Buddhas), but I'd love to hear Vic Anesini tackle the audio. And having the complete Paramount show with the four missing tracks would be sweeet!

 

Love "Lost Sheep", definitely a favourite Guess Who song. I would not want to be without this album. A must for me.

Loved this album since I found a still sealed copy at a church rummage sale for $1 in 1986. Great music, great sound.

 

Loved it since it came out, and am so glad it finally got a great reissue on CD.

 

"Hang On To Your Life," maybe-- Now there's a lost classic. Also maybe "All Hashed Out" from Artificial Paradise. HB is great, though.

 

Maybe my favourite Guess Who album, certainly back in the day it was. "Hi Rockers" encapsulates some of my dissolute teenage and early twenties-years. Those were the days...

 

Never thought of this, but I bet that's one reason I like it so much....

I'm a huge Guess Who fan. Went to a lot of their concerts. Some wild concerts. Varsity Stadium, Toronto, crowd gone wild, American flag burning, and pleads from Burton Cummings to stop the burning.
Undun: (1969) (flute) - before I was aware of Jethro Tull.

 

Just picked this one up, used. What a great album! Missed it the first time. I also missed Artificial Paradise, Road Food, Flavours, and So Long Bannatyne. How do these compare to Rockin'?

 

I can only assess So Long. It's better, but it still has some crap filler on it, like (IMO) all Guess Who lps after American Woman. Banatyne has one of Burton's greatest moments, Sour Suite--songwriting, arranging, vocally. It sets up a mood of deep frustration and weariness., a great mood piece.
