I have that DVD and it is excellent ...

 

Now playing the following CD, which arrived today for a first listen ...

 

Currently enjoying Arrau play Schumann's Fantasie

 

Recommendations for my first Pictures At An Exhibition?

How about Emerson, Lake and Palmer? Just kidding, although it is a great live take on Moussorgsky's Pictures.

BUT, if you can find it, this 2CD set has the best Pictures I have heard, in very good sound:

Nobody said Klemperer's M2 sucks!

Rattle. I'm the one that thinks Klemperer is not the absolute all time greatest. Not the same thing as saying Klemperer's Mahler is bad, more like it doesn't exactly ring my bells. However, Klemperer is in a different, better, class of Mahler conducting than Rattle. Hearing Rattle, then Karajan in Mahler's 5th tells you all you need to know. Rattle approximates, Karajan leads in this music.

Paradise Lost Anathema!Klemperer's LIVE version I have is ABSOLUTELY stunning, atmospheric, stratospheric, unparallelled!

 

Reason enough to own a SACD player.

 

I'll have to check it out. I know that when Klemperer is on, he's really on. And Mahler's Resurrection may be my favorite symphony.

Andrew Manze is a wonder. Managed to record him in concert a few times, modest guy, has a fine sense of humor, very musical. Try him in Biber, nobody does it better.

OMG new holy grail 2CD for me to find!

I guess it's OOP and VERY expensive when ya find it.
IF I can ever find a great deal on this I want it!!
