The Rose of Avalanche. I like this goth band. Pretty good song writing, but boy try to listen to these guys and not think of Lou Reed.

LOVE the Vulgar Boatmen. Great band. Just replaced Please Panic recently. What a tremendous band. Never got around to getting their 3rd, import only, release. Will have to do that sometime.

Fra Lippo Lippi, A Europeon based synth and dirge band, ala early New Order. They made some good records actually.

A subtly insinuating blend of pop a la Buddy Holly and a whisper of the Byrds jangle. Think alt pop with a more traditional/ Americana foundation as opposed to say, a Velvet Underground foundation.

I would like to second Vulgar Boatmen, Marti Jones and especially the Ike Reilly Assassination. Here are a handful of others:

Allo Darlin - Kinda precious British girl pop.
Rayland Baxter - Earnest alt-country singer-songwriter (son of pedal steel gun for hire, Bucky)
Buzz Zeemer - Philly power pop.
Jeremy Fisher - Sounds like a Canadian Paul Simon in early 70's hit-making mode.
Dave Hause - Philly punk rocker turned intense troubadour.
Roman Candle - North Carolina pop rock.
Two Cow Garage - Scuzzy Columbus hick bar band.
Bob Woodruff - Forgotten urban cowboy.

I, personally, would not consider Richman obscure. But this is all personal and my choice(s) might not be obscure to someone else.

    1. John Zorn
    2. Mike Patton (Past ten years)
    3. Halls of The Machine
    4. Andy Stott
    5. oOoOO
    6. Thee Oh Sees
    7. Ataxia
    8. Mr. Bungle
    9. The Sword
    10. Harold Budd

--all of the top of my head. Many more.

Has to be The Flashcubes out of Syracuse NY. The great power pop band that 'almost' made it BIG. They are still out there kicking it since 1977....opened for The Police, The Romantics, Pat Benatar, Joe Jackson, and many other big bands of the late 70's- 80's era. THE FLASHCUBES....check 'em out. You will thank me... Rory

Since I've been obsessed with mid 60s, 'garage rock' for the past 4-5 years, I'd say just about 90% of everything I listen to lately is, 'the most obscure'. :righton:
My g/f constantly complains, do I "listen to 'anything' that anyone else has ever heard"?
Or "anything recorded in this century?" :biglaugh:

Never heard of them, but Slapp Happy is one of my favorite obscure groups. I'm also a big fan of the solo efforts from their keyboardist, Anthony Moore.

D'oh - I got the name wrong but I still love the (((6))).

Their vinyl releases are great sounding - the band takes great care with the mastering of their sounds.

  25. On a related front, WOLD is a fairly obscure band I listen to. Experimental black metal from the wilds of Moose Jaw, SK.
