This has been discussed many times here, and since it's my favorite Tull album, I remember the general opinion here is the original U.S. Chrysalis cd, and the one in the 3 cd box "The Originals", which are in card sleeves in an orange box. Myself, I opted for the 1st U.S. Chrysalis cd pressing. :agree:

I found the first Chrysalis I bought, dull, thin and flat. The remaster, though not without its problems, was far more satisfying.

Any difference between the UK version and US?? Same Master???

While no cd version is very good, the original 1980's US Chrysalis is easily the best one.

Besides having a different tracklist, the UK Chrysalis is indeed a different (and inferior) mastering than the US Chrysalis.

The remaster with bonus tracks is a dud with its use of noise-reduction. Yuck.

I prefer the US CD, but I'm patiently waiting for the Benefit Box set!;)

or an AF Gold! we nearly had a DCC back in the 90's! Damn that would have been great!!!...

note: if we do get a remixed "Benefit" box set...PLEASE include the original mix on a CD/DVD as well...it sucks that we only got the original "Aqualung" mix IIRC on BR in the box set...ridiculous...

Unless you own the DCC Aqualung gold cd - can't get better than that! ;)

I do own it and love it, but I would have liked to hear the version on the box set that I paid good money for on a CD or DVD as well...not all of us are set up for BR.:)

I also like the original first issue of Aqualung with the missing seconds on Wind UP very close to the hated MFSL version...

Can I ask why you like that one better than the UK or USA Chrysalis?

I've never heard the original (US or UK) CD of Benefit. But I purchased the remaster with bonus tracks awhile back and never really had a problem with it.

Very bad recording. Even the vinyl doesn't sound good on this one, imo. I go with the US Chrysalis, except for "Teacher".
I hope one day Steve and Kevin...

The original US CD is perfect. I seem to be the only person on this forum that is not begging for a remix or remaster.
The "dark" sound fits the mood of the songs perfectly. The instrumentation is not complex, so I never feel that anything
is missing. I'm not very fond of the remaster as I never seem to reach for that copy.

This is one of my son's favorite Tull CDs as well. It's in pretty regular rotation in the house and car........

I like the one that I've got, although I haven't listened to it. Looks nice next to my other Jethro Tull CDs, filed in the 'T' section of my music library.

There is also a major difference between the UK Chrysalis and the WG Chrysalis CD, I think the UK Chrysalis CD sounds way better, but still inferior to the US Chrysalis CD (which has a different track listing).

That the search function is not working anymore makes the forum almost useless. :(

Agree. I have the Originals orange box. The "master" in that set is where I get Benefit. The original Chrysails Cd isn't bad either.

Benefit sounds terrible on any format so far - it was crappy on Island UK vinyl and isn't any different on CD. Remix, please, Mr Wilson!
