I bought and watched 'A Clockwork Orange' on blu-ray just recently. I had never seen it before although I do remember when it came out and how it was considered controversial and disturbing. It originally carried an R20 certificate here in New Zealand. I can understand how back in 1970 it may have been disturbing but for a first time viewer in 2013 I found the movie very tame by todays standards. I see worse depictions of violence on primetime TV nearly every day!
Okay. I just read the Wiki entry about A Serbian Film as well. Why the hell would anyone watch something like that let alone make it? I know there are people who like gore and horror films, but seriously?? I would question my relationship with anyone who had this movie in their collection. I'm not a prude by any means, but WOW! just the plot description alone is disturbing.
It is absolutely putrid...disgusting and totally sadistic...what makes anyone want to see a film like this? after reading about it I got curious and watched a bit of it...It was so disturbing I could not continue...I cannot even say what part I turned it off at.
Next time I get a dew days off, I am going to rent two or three of these thrillers and watch them. They are in abundance, and there were a few on the Redbox near my home.
My brother saw it and he thought it was overhyped. I'll probably see it at some point. Because as soon as people say "don't watch this" or "don't click on that link" "you can't unsee these things" I'm immediately intrigued. I'm a sicko apparently.
Other candidates for this "genre": 'Chuck & Buck', 'Spanking The Monkey', and 'Stay' a/k/a 'Sleeping Dogs Lie' (the Bob Goldthwait -directed film)
A Serbian Film is on youtube in its entirety, I've seen it. Yeah, it's unsettling to say the least, but to me, the Japanese are making horror/slasher flicks that make ASF look like The Sound of Music....check out "Grotesque"...no plot, just an hour and forty min. of a guy torturing and dismembering a young couple to death. Not for the squeamish...
Be careful what you wish for! The uncut version was being sold on Amazon recently... http://www.amazon.com/Serbian-Film-Uncut-Srdjan-Todorovic/dp/B007WULJ5G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1363130747&sr=8-1&keywords=a serbian film
I watched that today. It was pretty extreme but more in line with the Human Centipede movies than A Serbian Film. There were some pretty graphic themes of child abuse in ASF that makes it more disturbing than most torture porn. Sure its disturbing watching certain delicate bodyparts getting lopped and you can say, bah it's just a movie. You watch something like ASF and think, is this really happening in parts of the world?
