    Depending on which albums...
Some of my fave labels are SMS Japan (NOT SHM), Marc On Wax, Castle, Teldec.

Japanese SHM-CDs sound great. They're not compressed like recent remasters from Rhino.Fat Possum has a cd remaster of the Slider that may sound great-but I have yet to hear it.I think a member here has it and liked it.But the Japanese SHMs of Great Hits and Slider are NOT remastered as far as I know just enhanced in detail via SHM.

Electric Warrior - the in print Rhino Flashback repressing of the old Reprise mastering sounds great to me and you can get it new for £5.

I don't care for the Rhino masterings on 'The Slider' & 'Tanx'

I have 5 of the 2004 remasters released by Straight Ahead Productions. Haven't heard them for awhile so I better have another listen. Anyone have an opinion on these?

The boxset does indeed sound great and is essential - lots of rare early stuff on there.

For The Slider my go to go pressing is the japanese SMS. Great sound and nice bonus tracks. For Electric Warrior it is the Castle.

I, and I'm sure many others, will second this. In my case it replaced the awful expanded remaster, so bad I only played it once. I believe the Rhino Flashback and original Reprise sound identical and both are inexpensive, one of the best investments you'll ever make.
    Have fun, Trevor.
P.S. I also have the 20th Century Boy CD comp, a great career spanning selection of songs but I seem to remember it sounding 'off'. I'd appreciate comments from others on this.

    My go-to versions are:

Everything released as Tyrannosaurus Rex (up to and including s/t): The recent Universal in-print CDs are fine
Electric Warrior: Rhino expanded version (disliked by other people)
The Slider: SMS Japan by a wide margin
Tanx and all the rest: MOW (the covers suck and look cheap).

I'd go with the 'Castle' versions on these.

I don't rate the Castles much (I used to have them). Very dull sounding. The 2004 releases sound better to me and have the added bonus of stacks of bonus tracks. The first album (My People Were Fair..) contains both mono and stereo mixes - the mono is far superior. All the bonus tracks on each CD are superb, all the A and B sides are included. Together with the box set which contains all the very early singles plus plenty of rarities (again all great), we now have an amazing collection of Tyrannosaurus Rex material. These should not be missed.

As for the 2004 expanded editions.
I heard somewhere that some of the tracks were sourced from the 'Castle' CDs.
    Might have heard it here.

Any rexperts out there have views on the best CD of Zinc Alloy? I've got the 1989 MoW but was wondering if there was anything else worth considering? Cheers.

The 1987 Teldec is worth considering.
I prefer the 1985 MOW (w/ bonus tracks)

That's the one. I doubt you'll play disc 4 much, but the rest is great, especially the 1st disc.

the Shms and the relativity are horrible people be hating on the rhinos because of the albums alternate counterparts included it was a fine set and it is gonna be a colectors items someday. the works in progress was very definitive its like a best of for the unchained series. and sounds great. i do agree that electric warrior sounds best but other albums after tanx sound better than the earlier pressings and i love the booklets and the notes so Rhinos are really great. but my fav electric warrior pressing was the mid 80s reprise issue mines is west german.
