ASCAP (Work ID: 340063452) lists the song under the title DON'T WORRY BOUT ME (without the apostrophe), with 'BOUT and ABOUT shown in alternate titles. I've always seen it as 'BOUT (with apostrophe), such as on the This Is Sinatra! LP cover and label pictured above.

    Thanks, Bob!

    Here's the 45 label from '54:
    $(KGrHqNHJBsFIE1qEyuIBSCDQw7B!Q~~60_57b.jpg

Anybody have the 78, so we can check the label?

Speaking of people having things, I'm looking for clips from a few additional versions of "I've Got the World on a String," specifically:

    •Original 78
    •Original 45
    •"The Great Years" mono LP
    •"The Select Harold Arlen"
    •"Sentimental Journey" mono LP
•The 1970s abridged "This is Sinatra" LP
    •"The Apprentice: Crooners Collection" CD

    Anybody????

By the way, the following CDs all use/reuse the 1989 Furmanek/Walsh true mono mastering for I've Got the World on a String:
    •Collectors Series
    •The Capitol Years (3-CD set)
    •Sinatra 80th: All the Best
    •The Essential Frank Sinatra
    •The Frank Sinatra Collection

There likely are others, too. Those are just the ones I've checked so far.

The UK MFP "This is Frank Sinatra, 1953-1957" 2-CD set is also true mono, but is a unique mastering. That said, on this particular cut, I think it's essentially undistinguishable from the excellent Walsh/Furmanek mastering.

A while back, there was a thread here about the dropout at the start of "I've Got the World on a String." That dropout is audible on all of the above CD versions, as well as on the otherwise-wonderful-sounding 1984 UK Dell LP, which on this particular song -- dropout aside -- bests the D1 cut that eharmonica dubbed (thank you!), and double-bests my F21 mono Starline cut from 1968. (Not a diss on eharmonica, by the way. His dub is fine, as usual, but the LP is not very dynamic, almost 3dB RMS less dynamic than the Dell. My Starline LP? 6dB worse than the Dell!)

More to come as I have time to listen.

In the meanwhile, if anybody has clips available from any of the above sources, please PM me. Thanks!

Thread link: Sinatra's I've Got the World on a String - Sound Quality

In particular, note post #24, which mentions a number of CDs on which the dropout is NOT heard, notably the 1998 UK box version of This Is Sinatra! and US Norberg masterings.

Bob F reminded me about the EPs that contain songs from this session:

(Above is from an old post of member "Steph" at SFF.)

Also, does anybody have CLASSIC SINATRA?

Can you confirm that it's the same as one of the other discs? Or send a clip? Thanks!

Bob F sent along a clip (thank you) of the UK 1998 boxed CD set, and he is correct, there is no dropout. On the downside, it has, by a considerable margin, the least dynamic range of the 3 unique CD masterings (Walsh/Furmanek, "This is Frank Sinatra" UK budget CD, and this one) I've compared so far, and by a considerable margin. It's even more compressed than my late-'60s Starline LP. I'm not saying it's bad, just compressed. I'll get some short clips up at some point so you can hear for yourself.

For what it's worth, a quick note about my Starline THIS IS SINATRA mono LP, which I've learned is from 1969, not 1968.

Side one is an F21 cut, made on the mono Scully lathe that was apparently only in use from 1967 to 1969. Side 2 is an H20 cut made on a different Scully lathe that was in service as late as 1983, and it's WORLD'S better. It has treble and punch and dynamics. Completely different than that squishy side one.

I'm always surprised when I get a pressing that is so different one side to the other.

Was that "F" lathe repurposed with a new head once they started cutting "F" stereo lacquers? Or is that a different lathe entirely?

Anybody have the 1970s M-series release of "This is Sinatra? It's abridged to ten songs, but I'm wondering if the tape damage at the start of "I've Got the World on a String" was audible yet at that point. By 1985, it was, but in 1969 it was still good. Just curious.

Complete title is ALL THE WAY – FRANK SINATRA HIT COLLECTION (Japan Capitol CP25 5776-7) from abt. 1990. I don't have it, but someone (the late Sean Keane, I think) once posted at the SFF:

One of interesting things about it is I *think* it might be all mono, including the tracks that are also available in stereo. I'm only guessing that from hearing "Mr. Success" off of it years ago.

Sadly, when I click on those links (like this), I get "Page Not Found."

EDIT: I did find this cached goodie:

They are upgrading their forum software this morning. I read the thread yesterday. It goes on to prove "Tender Trap" is NOT an alternate. (Sean had good intentions, but he over-reacted to a few seconds difference in track timing.)

I've got all the "I've Got the World on a String" stuff posted here: http://www.11fifty.com/Site_108/1953_-_SinglesEtc2.html

Lots of good versions! I think I give the nod to the Alan Dell 1985 LP, but other versions are neck and neck. Please have a listen! (My thanks to those who are contributing clips and moral support, too.)

It occurs to me: Although I've been knocking side one of that 1969 Star Line "This is Sinatra" pressing I have, when I put it side by side with the D1 clip, I prefer the Star Line pressing, despite the added compression. (The D1 has some compression, too.)

Nicely done, Matt. It will be interesting to see if the Dell TIS,v.1 will provide the best bet for all the tracks on that album.
