The TWELVE parts of the Beatles Capitol CDs threads have become too unwieldy for members to sift through to find pertinent information. It's also wandered too many times into personal attacks and general off-topic discussion. We are NOT continuing with a part 13.

Instead, THIS thread will be used for members to voice their impressions of the U.S ALBUMS BOX SET, now that many have it or are about to receive it.

We are going to monitor this thread closely. ANYTHING beyond this discussion WILL be deleted. We ask for your impressions of the box set ONLY. If you enjoy it, great. If you don't, great. Discuss it. BUT STICK TO ACTUAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE BOX SET. We also ask that any member who sees a post that violates forum rules or the spirit of this thread to use the 'Report' button to report it to us immediately and we will deal with it as we see fit.

It is what it is. We all know by now what tapes and what mixes were used. For clarity's sake I am going to ask forum member slane to repost his excellent breakdown of what mixes and versions were used here just one more time.

Also included is a poll so that members can get an idea of what others think in one glance without sifting through the over 11,000 posts in the past 12 parts.

    And begin....

I'm very happy with it. Having good, clean-sounding versions of the songs in the order I remember them is great.

Apple shouldn't have used the '87 Help! and Rubber Soul remixes, but it's fine otherwise.

Not owning either of the 2009 boxes, this is ideal for me. I prefer the earlier recordings, to have them in mono and stereo is a bonus. I've been listening for a couple of hours now and I'm very impressed by the sound quality. Love the packaging too! It's a thumbs up from me.

I voted it's okay. Reason being I'm sure it sounds great. But I won't buy any of it because I already have the Capitol Albums box sets, which feature the original mixes I grew up listening to. There's nothing in it I need.

Mixes/Sources used on US Albums CDs.

Green= Same basic Mix used on CD as on original LP
Red= Different Mix used on CD

2009= Sourced from 2009 Remasters (Mono & Stereo)
Remix= 1987 Stereo Remix, sourced from 2009 Remasters

    * Folddown of stereo mix used on original mono LP
** Duophonic/Fake Stereo used on original stereo LP
The CDs have replaced the above with true mono and true stereo instead.

US Unique Mixes in bold and underlined (even when they haven't been included on the CDs)

    Hope everyone can understand this!

I will be getting it. Just waiting for a good price at Amazon (I think I missed the last one). I did have the Stereo remasters box but felt the cd jackets on that were designed to cause scuffs to the cds (I am referring to The White album and Past Masters). They didn't have the inner rice sleeves. I did sell that off.

To me, the sleeves on this look really nice and this may be an alternative for me to own much of the 2009 stereo remasters and some of the US mono mixes and stereo edits. I do also have the Capitol volumes.

I didn't mind the duophonic tracks replaced with the stereo or mono mixes (if no stereo existed), or replacing the folddowns with mono mixes. I only had an issue with using the 1986 stereo remixes for Help!, Rubber Soul, and Yesterday and Today when the 1965 stereo was issued for Rubber Soul and Help! with the Mono box set.

I finally decided to crack my box open and actually play the dang things, and I think I'll be just fine with the purchase after all. I realized that I only know the Beatles in the digital age, so the US albums are complete unknowns to me. The fact that this box isn't an exact representation of the US albums' sound doesn't bother me at all since I have no memories of the original LPs. But I will say that I have heard the first two CDs in the box, and I was struck by their energy and excitement. What a way to kick off Beatlemania in the States!

I voted, Don't like it...they should have used the original 60's Capitol master tapes.

I did buy AHDN Soundtrack, and Hey Jude. I will enjoy those along with my two Capitol boxes and my '45th Anniversary' Y&T. FWIW, I am happy for those who bought some or all of the 2014 releases, and are enjoying them.

With that, I shall say no more! I've had enough of these threads, and they do seem to be going in circles. I hereby bid all fellow Beatlephiles a fair 'Adieu', and I'll see you in other threads...

My only real complaint as well. Otherwise it's fine. If I want to listen to the "Dexterized" versions, I can always play the original vinyl or "The Capitol Years Vol. 1+2" CD sets. I own the duophonic versions of AHDN and Y&T on boot CD, so I guess that'll have to do.

I voted that it's okay. If it had all of the U.S. unique mixes/edits, I would like it with some reservations. My overall impression is that there's some unfinished business here.

I voted "Like it...with some reservations". Instead of "The Beatles' story", which I feel is completely useless, I would prefer to have some "US Past Masters" CD (containing all the songs not included in the albums up to '66, plus some other later unique mixes) or "Holywood Bowl". But otherwise I love this set, it's a real joy.

Actually, I would have clicked the "LOVED IT...with a few reservations." I do love it, it is so great looking, wonderful graphics. Very few minor tweaks (twerks??) here and there have me thinking...and I would have included MMT, mono / stereo. But that's already been talked to death. Carry on.

I DID enjoy Bill Flanagan's narrative in the booklet. He's a bit of a favorite of mine through his reviews and commentaries on CBS Sundaty Morning already. So I was looking forward to reading his take on this slice of history. I think he did a real good job on it! My favorite excerpt is:

“And let’s just take a minute to stand in wonder at Paul’s “Long Tall Sally.” Forgive the vulgarity but – holy ****. Had any Englishman ever sung like that before? Had any white man? Sorry, Elvis. Sorry, Killer. Paul wins.”

    I voted "okay."

I'm not getting the whole box; I picked up 7 of the titles (6 featuring unique mixes, plus Help!).

Not a fan of the "duophonics", did not grow up with them, don't miss them.
I do wish they used all the unique mixes (like the stereo versions of the three Yesterday & Today songs.

All in all, it's okay. What I'll be doing with the unique mixes is inserting them in 1962 - 1966, or replacing the regular versions (when such case applies).

And that's all I've got to say.

I've printed one of, cropped it and slipped it in my box. I'm thankful that the black foam shipping pad that was in the box has now given me room for 1) an additional copy of Y&T w/"second state cover" and 2) this great reference document.
    Thanks!
