Gotta love it when "the system" works!

Thanks to my eagle-eyed A&M Corner pals, they spotted yet another auction for what was a homemade compilation of Herb Alpert tracks. It was so "home brew", it was laughable. Amateur use of an image editor program. Here's the first one we found:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2562275564&category=43622

We tried to warn the buyer, but got a curt reply of, "And you are?" Sheesh.

    Second listing:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=43622&item=2566934479

There was another one listed a few weeks ago that was pulled. Then just a few days ago, we spotted yet another attempt. This time, he added that he "bought these CD-Rs in Sri Lanka". Yeah, and the moon rises in the west. I not only reported it to eBay under the CD-R rule, I turned the seller in to the RIAA via their special e-mail address. The RIAA has listed themselves as a VeRO participant. Information about all VeRO participants is here:

    http://pages.ebay.com/help/community/vero-aboutme.html

In short, if they are on the list, you can report offending auctions to them. :)

I don't care to "burn" the seller unless they are a repeat offender, in which case I think they should have their accounts terminated. But I like to stop these auctions to protect the seller more than anything.

They could have at least spent more time on the graphics!

At least they did not put those stupid warnings on the back (Unauthorized copying prohibited, etc.)

I sure hope the said winning bidders are aware of this so that the seller can't scam false payments from these innocent people.

Dave--I don't think the last auction lasted long enough to get any winners. This guy does seem to be a legit eBay seller--he's trying to unload some Peerless golf clubs in other auctions, and had a feedback of 460 with only one negative. But the music items he's selling don't appear to be legit. Maybe he just IS reselling something he bought and doesn't know any better? I don't know. All I know is, some seller is going to buy this and find out they've purchased a homemade CD compilation.

Proof there are good eBay sellers ;) : I won a Bazooka sub for the car, it looks brand new, but it came without the wiring harness. Looking at it, I guessed correctly and it is an industry standard 14 pin Molex connector (the plastic connector with the square sections to it, some of them rounded off to make it a one-way connector). The seller not only apologized profusely, he promised to reimburse me fully for anything I had to buy for it! Since the connector only cost me $3.44, and I have more wire than I know what to do with, I told him to not bother, since the item itself looked so good. The seller did say he sold this w/o really knowing what came with it, so I really can't blame him for it NOT being there, or even knowing it SHOULD be there.

Correct Rudy. I have a 'Zooka tube for the car as well. Easy fix if you don't have the wiring harness, you can make one. The pin-outs are written right on the front plate, from knowledge ;) Looks like an ATX connector.

Don't forget that the flip side of this is uninformed buyers. I see boots all the time on ebay going for extremely high prices as "rare items," when they are tradable, for free, on a million other sites. But, the buyer should know better, here.

Reminds me of the $75 copy of the TJB's Lonely Bull album, with $9 shipping. I think a few of us e-mailed this misinformed seller that we could probably buy three copies of that LP for just the shipping charge alone. No bids on his auction thankfully. Maybe it wasn't STUNNING!!! enough. :D

I actually just sold a bootleg double LP on eBay. It is a very bad recording (cassette) of Genesis live in Italy, 1982. I made it very plain how awful it sounded, and the piecework album cover was the icing on the cake.
