I’m visiting the Midwest for a couple weeks and spending some time in Madison. I’m trying to find any record stores in Madison that might be worth checking out. I don’t have time to hit up everything I’m seeing on Yelp, so I’m looking for consensus opinions.

Places that have an interesting selection and are not overpriced, heavy on the used stock, etc. Any advice is appreciated!

Strictly Discs on Monroe Street is the best.

Reissues upstairs; used downstairs. Great selection in both sections.

The three I visit are B-side, Mad City and Strictly Discs.

B-Side records is ok. Unfortunately the majority of records stores I’ve been to in Madison aren’t all that great.
Earwax records used to be the place for metal, but I haven’t been to the Madison location in years.
Too bad you won’t be in the Milwaukee area there’s two great shops there.

There’s an extremely slim chance we’ll get to Milwaukee, so any advice there is welcome too!

I concur. My favorite was the Exclusive Company on State Street - good selection and great prices. But unfortunately that closed a few years back.

I always leave Acme records in Milwaukee with a stack. Rush-mor is a few blocks away and has a few things.
Stardust is north of the city and is worth the drive especially if you like 45’s. A lot of time can be spent there.

They had a great classical section downstairs.
    Sorry to hear they're gone.
