I'd prefer it, sure - as I've no desire to re-purchase LiHS (though the new cover is a vast improvement). Ideally, I'd like to have the 7".
A few others on the LIHS Deluxe are covers. "Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way?" is a Waylon Jennings song. And "Judy Is a Punk" is Ramones. I guess maybe he had too many for one album?
To me he appears to be strumming competently, but the whole band is just miming for the video. Also, note that Moz's guitar has no cable in the input, so he clearly wasn't worried about authenticity.
There are 5 live cover versions on the deluxe reissue; each previously available as b-sides on the 7” singles from the album. My favourite of these was I Never Promised You A Rose Garden. There are just 3 new original songs on the deluxe version, none of them very good.
That covers album is very interesting , very much a personal selection of songs from his pre fame years
Not sure who’s picked this up yet but there’s an FM Broadcast CD just come out called Poetry Hour from Colorado 1/10/1992 Great quality, 15 tracks, and such a little thing also blends into his cover of suede’s great b side my insatiable one. So 16 tracks really, great companion to Beethoven Was Deaf
That tends to be the case on most of his modern reissues. The original bonus cuts haven't been truly great for the last several albums. The last choice set of bonus tracks, IMO, was My Early Burglary Years. Since then, deluxe editions or albums like Swords have been a big shrug for me. His covers, though, are another story. They're often quite good.
The b sides from You are the Quarry were excellent , worth gettin* the deluxe cd of that lp , less so thereafter but still the odd corker ; ganglord from ringleaders singles was better than most of the album tracks
Apropos of nothing, am I the only one who hears the title "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" (or "The House With the Clock In Its Walls") and starts singing it to the tune of "The Boy With the Thorn In His Side?" I'm wondering if it's just me.
I own the deluxe of YATQ. I've listened to the second disc about three times. I know some people like those bonus tracks, but they never really did it for me. Perhaps, when I get on another Morrissey kick, I'll go back and reinvestigate them.
I gave it a listen, and was surprised that it wasn't bad at all. I wonder how Waylon got on Morrissey's radar. Anyway, let's hear him take on "Take This Job and Shove It" next.
For some reason, this reminds me of the Blues Brothers' country and western juke joint scene. Maybe Moz should cover "Rawhide" or "Stand By Your Man" next?
Maybe that he's tired of losing scores of fans every time he opens his mouth about politics? A "Singing Socialist" song might be an olive branch of a sort.
I think Morrissey’s period of strong original b-sides ran from 88-95. After that it becomes quite patchy; though there are some excellent tracks amongst the filler on Swords: Teenage Dad...., Christian Dior, Ganglord, etc I really liked the new songs he debuted in 2011: People Are The Same Everywhere, Action Is My Middle Name & Scandinavia; but only the last received a proper studio recording, which really should have replaced one of the abysmal tracks from World Peace... (take your pick, but I nominate Staircase At The University, Kick The Bride Down the Aisle - perfect examples of Morrissey failing to write a song that lives up to its title)
I haven’t polled each & every Smiths/Morrissey fan on the planet but I feel quietly confident in saying: “It’s just you”
I just listened to the songs you listed, and you're right. Those are good tracks. I guess, in my overall dislike of Swords, I threw a few babies out with the bathwater. So, on that note, after the quite good Years of Refusal, I found myself irritated beyond measure at WPINOYB. So much so that I haven't even listened to LIHS. So, a few questions: 1. Are there any tracks on WPINOYB that I should revisit? 2. How is LIHS? Is it worth checking out? Any songs in particular you would recommend? 3. I wasn't really all that thrilled (at the time) with the bonus tracks on YATQ or ROTT. But maybe I was comparing them to the singles / best album tracks. Which are the best, in your opinion, from that era? I'm looking to put together a playlist mix of "The Best of Morrissey 2005-2018," and I'm looking for about 15 or 20 songs. What might be some recommendations from that era? I would really appreciate any help you could give. I want to be able to enjoy some Moz that I'm not overly familiar with, so any help you could give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
It's nice to have his cover of Elvis' "You'll Be Gone" on the Deluxe Edition. He opened with that one when I saw him last year.
