I was asked, I shall answer. To repeat, the complete engineering credits for LOVE IS THE THING Capitol W-824.

    Mono engineer: John Kraus.
Stereo binaural engineer and mono and stereo assembly, 1/8/57: Rex Uptegraft.
    Proofing ref, 1/8/57: Rex Uptegraft
Lacquer masters cut 1/10/57: Hal Mulhonen and Frank Carter.
Protection copy made 5/25/59 by "M."

Stereo credits sadly unknown. The "B" team, that's for sure, in the upstairs snack bar.

And, for the record (pun) here is the original 1959 first stereo LP release order of the 10 stereo songs:

    Side One:
    1. Stardust
    2. It's All In The Game
    3. When I Fall In Love
    4. Ain't Misbehavin'
    5. When Sunny Gets Blue

    Side Two:
    1. Love Is The Thing
    2. At Last
    3. Stay As Sweet As You Are
    4. I Thought About Marie
    5. Where Can I Go Without You

We can see they scrambled the song order around to hide the fact that the album is incomplete, missing the two songs only captured in mono (because of technical failure).

If you need the recording dates, studio and musicians, go to JTaylor's new Nat "King" Cole discography pages. I don't have the link handy, maybe someone can furnish?

An " Instantaneous Playback" reference lacquer cut from the final LP tape assembly for approval from various Capitol folk..

    Did I spell instantaneous right?

I love that 1950's Capitol sound - Sinatra, Cole, Gleason, Garland, Dean Martin, etc.

As an 11 yo kid I heard the 45 those lazy crazy hazy etc etc days of summer. 25 years later I was purchasing the nat king Cole trio box set. The library had plenty of crooner nat king cole.

    Steve,

The '57 ZD-11 stereo mix still exists? Neat! I wonder if the first stereo mix for Sinatra's WHERE ARE YOU? (ZD-17) still exists. The 1959 mix is kind of a stinker compared to the ZD-17 mix.

There were separate stereo mixes made for the LP (SW-824) and 4-track reel (ZW-824)?

All the Z mixes still exist. At least they did in 2010. Different mix for LP stereo and 4 track stereo, yes. The Z mix was the best but the De-esser was on too much for Nat's voice. But the voice/music balance is perfect. My template..

my earliest home music memories were my parents stash of all his late 50's early 60's stuff, along w/ Ray Charles, Mills Bros., Les Paul & Mary Ford, Chet Atkins ('Workshop' pretty much got me playing, along w/ the Ventures). still have those lps spread amongst my siblings.

my fav. is The Very Thought Of You (1958). best voice in the biz imo..lots of nicotine unfortunately =\

i like that he lists right after My Bloody Valentine in my Itunes catalogue.

    I was asked, I answer.

"If the 1957 Z stereo binaural mix tape had been good enough would you have used it for the stereo version on the SACD and vinyl?"

    Answer: Yes.

I presume there's a strict licensing limit on discs issued by other companies, which is why this one is only available at terrible prices.

Might it be re-issued at a reasonable price?
