    The answer for this morning:

31 Dec 1972- Winterland. Well, as noted earlier it's 1 Jan 1973, first show of a bold, new year.

Truckin' > The Other One > Morning Dew (with special guest David Crosby)

One of the finest musical offerings ever put forward by the Grateful Dead.

Special bonus: Bill Graham talking a tripping head down off the PA stack late in set 2. Pole Guy's cousin?

I like some yacht rock. This is more looking for (and failing to locate) a life raft rock.

Greatest Story Ever Told opener is anything except languid:)

I see Deal is starting slowly but not a fan of 1972 Deals....

I think I’m going to go to Mr. Charlie, then Tennessee Jed and then up to China>Rider...

How *I* listen to Dead music - any way I want to!!!

So about that 12/31/72 show, any reason it hasn't been released officially? Seems to me that a NYE show from THE seminal year would sell like hotcakes.

I don't know it yet except by reputation, which I will rectify shortly.

DL2 said in an interview that the multitrack recording of set 2 is in the Vault. Therefore it requires proper preparation for release, and I am sure David would sign off for some royalties. As to why we haven't seen it? Only LATVALA knows! :kilroy:

I wonder why only set 2 exists in multitrack? Listened to the 1st couple songs from the archive and set one sounds pretty good to me.

The presence of guests, especially famous guests, creates obstacles that make those releases less profitable, especially for the Dave's Picks business model.

(Has there been a Dave's Pick that features any guests?)

Anyway I agree this would be a good one.

I think they should think about starting to release those guests shows now, while their level of popularity and cultural relevance is on the upswing.

I do like that Danish "Dark Star" quite a bit. The sound is also fantastic.

A multitack recording would make this a special release that might have a broader appeal. Get a bit of Rhino's marketing muscle behind a Dead show with Crosby and they could sell many copies. Now, pair it with 10 September 1972 when Crosby sits in on Dark Star, or release the David & the Dorks show along with the Winterland show, and there's a package for the ages.

Starting up the Academy of Music run again as my first GD listen of 18'. The 3-21-72 Truckin'->OO->Wharf (also available on DaP bonus disc) for those not aware is a work of art. The entire suite contains numerous peaks and is definitely a 'group mind' performance with the jams highlighting the band playing as one entity. There are some strange occurrences taking place deep in the OO.

Just received Dave’s 14 but alas no Bonus Disc (which I did not expect since I got the set for a very good price). One day I’ll get that Bonus Disc:)

Funny, I just listened to that yesterday.

Incidentally, I didn't know until now that they played Black Throated Wind during the soundcheck. There is a distant recording on the Archive.

Happy New Year all. Hope it's a great one for everyone.

The show I selected last night to see it in was the last night of the Europe 72' tour; Lyceum 5/26. What a magnificent show and way to end the tour and 2017 ;-)

    Cheers,

    Zafu

Good pick for the Vault series. I wasn't at 6/16/90 and that show was under my radar until released officially, despite being a really good one for the era.
