OMG he was in that film! I haven't seen it since its first release. I liked the film but I don't remember Christian at all. All I remember is Ewan McGregor's wild and literally naked performance. That and snorting coke off a girl's a**. At least I think it was a girl. Maybe not.

After this movie, having seen Ewan in a couple of others shortly before, I announced loudly to my friends who had seen VG with me, "Ewan McGregor is the most over exposed actor in showbiz!" Great expressions of hilarity ensued.

But Christian Bale's commitment to a part is amazing. He's a great actor.

Never knew there are multiple versions of this. The US one that I saw is a bunch of lame situation comedy bits spliced with DJs spinning classic rock songs. Lots of scenes to the music of teenagers, shopkeepers and blue collar folks spazzing out. No context with anything happening but you do get a borish 5 minute "lose his virginity" bit and grown man utterly pointless "chicken".

Oh...Looks to be a very big disparity between US & UK versions. Was looking to purchase on DVD, but the US version sounds spectacularly awful. :yikes: :thumbsdow Thanks. :tiphat:

  6. Gary Oldman is a really good actor. Viola Davis is really good. They're both at that career stage where they both have a long-term track record of accomplishment.

For promising newcomers, I like Saoirse Ronan a lot, too. Also Florence Pugh, based on her performance in the 2018 6-part Little Drummer Girl series. I thought the entire cast in Little Drummer Girl was terrific, really. I don't know if it would be possible to put together an ensemble of that caliber on this side of the Atlantic.

    The Expendables 3
    , that we can do.

Granted, Michael Shannon, who did an exceptional job in a major character role (Kurtz) for Little Drummer Girl, is an American. Another promising newcomer.

Sterling Brown has a lot of potential. He needs film roles with some screenwriting depth in order to find out exactly how good he can be.

  7. yes. There you go. Michael Keaton at his best, too.

It wasn't that long ago that I saw Birdman. I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed it. Thanks for the reminder.

I would have thought they are the same with new film title Pirate Radio. Unless the US is cut/edited.

Like the scene where Arthur Stewart/Bale’s parents burst in his room and find him admiring a album cover/poster ( to put it mildly ). :D

Glenn Close overall male or female for me. Rewatching Damages.

Don’t think anyone else has been as acclaimed in a TV series and film.

It’s hard to argue with Hoffman. Oldman, Blanchett and DDL are high on my list.
Cranston and Gandolfini rule the TV universe.

If Meryl Streep is counted as 20th century (despite nine Oscar nominations this century), then I go with Tom Hardy.

The Drop, Venom, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Warrior, Legend -- all impressive, and very different roles.
