Michael Hutchence. Largely forgotten?*

I thought that myself as I posted it (but they're on the above album I dropped here).

 

My INXS albums go from Shabooh Shoobah through Welcome. I didn't like Full Moon either.

One of my fave frontmen. Great voice and stage presence.

 

I like a few INXS songs but always found Hutchence to be incredibly annoying and pretentious. He came across as cocky and smug in many of their videos, and quite frankly he wasn't a talented enough vocalist to get away with that kind of arrogance. And most of their hits have not aged particularly well either, IMO. If he were still alive I suspect INXS would be touring the state fair circuit in the US...

 

I only know one INXS song, and it's by the Rolling Stones.

Fantastic singer with charisma. Great songs. Great band.

 

Looking at wiki I see that the greatest hits album was released with three different track lists. The one you posted was the UK one and apparently those songs didn't chart there. What's interesting to me is seeing that Don't Change is also not on the US greatest hits, and that the song only made it to # 80 on Billboard. I would have thought it did a lot better. It was certainly played on MTV a lot.

 

INXS was a great band.
They had a great success.
It's amazing how this band was...forgotten.

 

He's remembered in Australia (see mini series above). But those artists you mentioned are the 1st tire of rock royalty. Not many people are compared with them in general.

 

My younger sister was into them in the late 80's/early 90's. I bought her to see them in 1990. Myself, I remember them being everywhere in 1987/88. They were big, almost U2 big during that time.

 

This. They were bombing when he was still alive. The last two INXS records prior to his death stiffed badly in the U.S. He went out with a whimper.

I also prefer INXS to most of the artists in the OP; Live Baby Live is one of the best concert films I've ever seen.

Another thing to consider is maybe how he died. I am sure that I wasn't the first person who had never heard of autoerotic asphyxiation.

I totally forgot about this group. Remember listening to The Swing, and Listen like thieves a lot in my teenage years.
Even watched the reality TV program "Rock star INXS" years ago, but still forgot about them!

The guy kind of became a joke RE: how he died. The music is all over 80's radio stations still because the singles are good, but they didn't really matter by the 90's.

I have one of their albums and a compilation which I both like, but beyond that I think the band itself is kind of one of those bands that people remember from the 80's but don't talk about much anymore.

I was just going to say pretty much the same thing. Weird circumstances surrounding his death....and not weird in a "good" way.
