Janna Rozhdestvenskaya - Aria of the Blessed Virgin (E-flat of the 3-rd octave) from the opera "Juno & Avos" Juno and Avos (opera) - Wikipedia
Today it's 25 years ago that Ella Fitzgerald passed away. Sad to say: On June 25, 2019, The New York Times Magazine listed Ella Fitzgerald among hundreds of artists whose material was reportedly destroyed in the 2008 Universal fire.
Fortunately, many of us have all the recordings we need. Those we haven't can be downloaded from YouTube as someone else will have them and have uploaded them. So the fire has a diminishing significance.
Aretha franklin is probably the best she has the range, soul, agility and musicality. Sarah vaughan exceptional singer, lots of control but not as much range as aretha. Ella fitzgerald has incredible technique, sings with attitude but smooth at the same time. I have to say Whitney houston is pretty fantastic I'm a sucker for a powerhouse, she has great tone and I like the fullness of her voice when she belts.
Its Ella or Aretha to me as they satisfy my soul. Its pretty sad that this is a music forum and no one yet has mentioned Teena Marie. How underated this multi talented singer is. She is the one with operatic chops and truth and beauty to her voice. Better than most mentioned
Not a favourite singer but one whose vocal talent I admire is Austrian soprano opera singer Gundula Janowitz.
Just listened to Mother Earth’s first, and I’d have to concur. Every time I hear Tracy, I think she’s the best ever. Pipes!
Ella Fitzgerald would have to be (IMHO) right up there in any discussion of best female vocalist. Sarah Vaughan is right up there as well!
