Nothing sez Old Year's Eve like vegan death metal, right? Well, that is the situation that is gwan on rite here as I type.

(Almost) the Thin Lizzy of extreme music, no less. Ugly and still a bit beautiful. Like me...

I love it, it brings much more clarity to what's being played. Some fans dislike the use of reverb on a couple of vocal tracks, but I think it's an splendid remix.

I really like the album, but I've been a bit put off by all the negative talk about the latest box to buy it yet. Then again people seems to be almost hysterical when it comes to these things.

The box has its mastering problems, the main ones being:

    Low
has extreme low frequencies (it sounds quite logical after all :D)
"Heroes" features a volume drop on '"Heroes"'

But, the Lodger remix is great, Stage (original mix) and Scary Monsters sounds great too, and the Re:Call volume is quite rich.

Far from being perfect, but a solid 7/10 for me.

I caught two of them - 0ne of the Bridge shows and one at the Fox in Oakland, both excellent nights that I never expected to experience. Too bad they couldn't have kept it going longer for more people to see them.

Yup, that one was my main concern. Thing is that I've got two or three versions of most of these albums on cd (and Bowie is the only artist I've ever done this for) so I really want the box but I'm still sorta on the fence.

Of course a better Lodger and particularly Scary Monsters would be very tempting indeed...

The good kinda hair metal. Aka the one without only the hair.

The last four or five years I've usually only listen to this one while under the influence (today it is just champagne, fellaz, settle down), but it still has been a major part of my life for the last 33 years. More than you can say about the Beatles...

    Before the Silence

Albert Cirera - tenor & soprano saxophones
    Hernani Faustino: double bass
    Gabriel Ferrandini: Drums
    Agusti Fernandez: piano

    Recorded live on 5/9/2015

First listen sounding real good - never heard this saxophonist / bought it for the great pianist & also for the drummer who I know from Rodrigo Amado’s Motion Trio.

I don't listen to early Zep that often compared to my teen years but what a great record #II is. Turn it up to eleven or nothing at all

Finishing off the extraordinary concert recording called “Before the Silence”

I didn’t know the 4 track-listings were simply placeholders if one wanted to get back into the concert part way through.

~63-64 minutes of improvisation right in my wheelhouse with one of the greatest 2-3 living improvising pianists in the *great* Agusti Fernandez in blazing form. Nice to hear an improving quartet go all out without remembering to moor the music to a quiet centre. Ferrandini is very powerful and this saxophonist I’d never heard before (Albert Cirera) is someone I need to hear more from.

After all these years, I’m still so excited and amazed when a band can create a fully improvised piece or pieces that almost seem like a pre-composed piece of something that at least has some sketched out signposts while realizing it’s truly improvised from scratch. These Portuguese dudes (I include Rodrigo Amado who is the saxophonist that got me listening to these musicians) really have something special happening.

Peter Brotzmann with Steve Swell & Paal Nilssen-Love

    Live in Copenhagen 4/14/2016

The grandmaster a bit over a month after his 75th birthday is in prime form on the opening 29 minute improvisation starting on tenor and switching to clarinet about 22 minutes in.

Looking forward to the rest later today or during the week.

In pristine up close recorded sound with drums, trombone and reeds sounding like I’m in the room.

Nice set. The keyboards on "Vibration and light" sounds like midi in the beginning but moves towards electric piano at the end.
Casal steals the show with his playing but Chris's rhythm guitar is clearly audable on most songs and he does a fine job
