Thank you! What would I gain by moving up to the .7's from my current MMGs, which I adore? And would I need to change my power source, which is currently an Outlaw R2150 receiver?

Good stuff! I simply have to find a way to make .7s work in my room.

The .7s are a better speaker than the MMGs. More resolution and more lifelike imaging.

Don't get me wrong, the MMGs are a $600 thing of wonder. The .7s additional surface area def. makes a difference.

The Outlaw receiver would work fine. Maggies will however, benefit from "better" amplification, they are a pretty good
mirror of the chain of components.

It does take some experimentation if you have a challenging room, but if you can do it, the pay off is huge.

Very nice write up in the link. Question about pics. Are the speakers as close together as they appear in the pics?

I have 1.7s and use much less toe in and use a Martin Logan Descent sub dialed in and they do rock especially with jazz. I keep the tweeters on the o/s but to each his own.

And that does not cause issues in terms of imaging/soundstage? I'm a complete neophyte in regards to speakers with that type of design but shouldn't the tweeters be aimed at my ears? Considering how much taller these would be to where the ears of a seated person would be with that setup, I'm wondering if one would get the full impact of these specific speakers' sonic benefits.

My speaker and seating positions are quite similar, hence my curiosity.

Nice writeup! I love my MMG's and could probably fit the .7's in but not the 1.7.

I have been curious about Martin Logan subs.

Tweeters in our out, as you say, is totally taste and room dependent!

    Thanks!

The 1.7i is significantly bigger than the MMGs!

Actually, the imaging and soundstaging are superb.

The tweeters on a planar speaker are totally different than a cone speaker, so very different rules. Remember the tweeters run down from the bottom of the speaker to the top, and you have options for tilt. The pictures may not indicate as such, but with the toe in, the tweeters are aimed at ears.

I do hear complaints re the imaging and soundstaging - I've never understood them, but suspect that is related to not letting them sit 3 ft or more from the back wall...

The Abs. Sound has a great review of the bigger Maggies that discusses many of their advantages.

But they are not perfect. Audio Research uses 20.7's to test their expensive tube components but also feel the need to use a pair of Sonus Faber Aida's too.

    The latter start at $25k...

I suspect some users do not understand how the requirements of dipoles.

    Maggies are def. not perfect.

I agree that Jonathan Valin does an amazing job of summing up Magnepans in that review. Also,
he is one of the more knowledgeable writers concerning their evolution.
