Many of his contributions to PR for Warner Brothers are iconic.

He oversaw what was probably the most interesting promotions department of the most interesting label during their most fertile period.

    RIP.

Appropriately, I shall quote from one of his finest set of liner notes:

"Tonight will not swing, tonight is for serious."

And so it shall be between this news and marking Mr. S's anniversary.

To anyone who loves behind-the-scenes stories of the music industry, or loves Warner Bros. in their golden age, check out Cornyn's wonderful book, "Exploding!" I'm going to start rereading it tonight. RIP, Stan.

Very sad loss. One of the best writers of jacket liner notes ever. Always enjoyed reading his work.

I had just posted those liner notes to my Facebook page. Pure poetry.

    RIP Stan.

One of the greats; one of the most original personalities who brought life to the dirty business of dreams.

    Requiescat in pace.

And with just piano behind him, Sinatra turns actor. The man whose broad’s left him with some other guy and all of the loot…And there is silence all about, for this audience is watching a man become that last lucked-out guy at the bar, the last one, with nowhere to go but sympathy city.

His book "Exploding!!" should be in EVERY FORUM MEMBERS HOUSE!
    Amazing tales, and real history.
He, and his WEA-gang, make me almost forgive the 'industry'.............. almost!

His liner notes for Nancy Sinatra's "Boots" album were classic.... Every 1960's cliche was packed into those liner notes....

"'How should I sing this?' 'Like a 16-year-old girl who's been dating a 40-year-old man, but it's all over now."

I mentioned Stan's passing to some people at work and an intern who is all of 25 or so asked me "What are liner notes?"

Well.... I'm sure if you put him in terms of.... 'Imagine a 'hippy' version of "Mad Men"', the guy would get a little more respect...... maybe.

    Color me, sad :(

And I could read liner notes on LPs, compared with trying to decipher lyrics in micro print on cd booklets.

This is very sad. I had corresponded with him over the years. As a CD+Graphics format collector, he was very helpful in recalling what was created and released in that format and as recently as the last 6 months was happy to hear when I found a new disc to add to my collection.

I'll miss that connection as I continue to work on completing my CD+G collection.

I just uploaded this video from a promo disc for The Super CD system, in which Stan describes CD+Graphics.

Many thanks for posting that link so folks who don't own the LP or CD copies of these albums can see what they've been missing with downloads!

    Damn...this day keeps getting worse.

I'm pretty sure I had several conversations with him in the 80s...though I might have hallucinated it.

    R.I.P. Mr. Cornyn.

You were one of the industry's rare class acts.

The last correspondence I had with him was in October. I sent him this... along with an update on how my CD+G collecting was going....

    He replied...

I emailed him on April 19th about finding a previously unknown to me CD+G title and didn't get a response. I guess I know why. Very sad.
