The most musical sound in my 40 year's Audio history.

It is the sound from my current system based upon Lansche 4.1 speakers.


I bought my first serious audio system consisting of Garrard Turntable, Fisher Receiver(SS), ADS bookself speaker on 1978.

Since then I had gone through Altech Lansing, Thiel, Canton, Apogee Duetta Signature, Avalon Ascent II, Wilson Watt Puppy 6, B&W 801, Full range speaker using Lowther PM 65.

I had Apogee Duetta Signature mated with Krell KSA 150 from 1989 to 1999.

That was the second most musical system that I had ever had.

In retrospect, I shall have kept Apogee for my life.



I had used Nad, Perreaux, Krell, Jeff Rowland SS amplifiers until 1999.

Since then I had been using only Tube amplifier, Jadis 500, Silbatone 300B SET, Rogue Cronus Magnum II.

I had given up vinyl when I moved from Berkeley to Chicago on 1988 since I had no room for vinyls in my small car.


I had used NAD, California Audio System, DCS Elgar,CEC TL0x, Accoustic Arts, EMMLab Dac2 as digital source.


I had been using Lansche 4.1 Speaker since 2007.

It has pristine treble out of plasma tweeter, dynamic sound out of active two 10 inch woofers and high efficiency (99db/w spec).


For the first 4 years I mated Lansche with Silbatone 300B SET 8watt amplifer (Western Electric original 300B tube made in 1903's).

But after moving to larger house, 8 watts was not enough to drive Lansche to full orchestra.


Thus I got Rogue Cronus Magnum II on temporary base.

But after tube rolling, I had liked Rogue enough to keep it for 6 years.

I had installed Telefuken 12AX7 and Amperex 12Au7 to Rogue.


This year I got Line Magnetic 508 SET tube amplifier.

It has output of 48 watts out of 805 tubes and use 300B as driver.

I also had got Jay's CDT2 Mk2 transport to mate with EMMLab Dac2.


I also got used Lyngdorf 2170 two weeks ago for test.

Lyngdorf did not mate well with Lansche 4.1 speaker as amplifier.

But it turned out the Lyngdorf do wonder as Dac and room correction mated with Jay's transport.


I had done lot of tube rolling with Line Magnetic SET amplifier.

I also use Spiritual Audio Vx9 power conditioner, Synergistic System Blue Power cables, Audio Note speaker Cable and Silnote digital cable.



Line Magnetic 508 (after Nos tube rolling) mated with Lansche 4.1 give most musical sound in my 40 years' Audio history.

I had been to many Audio Shows and Dealer Showrooms.

Some system play more dynamic sound but never musical as mine.

My system provide sweet treble, nuanced details, wide and deep soundstage and pretty explosive dynamics reaching 20hz rumble.


I am listening to "Autumn Leaves" sung by Eva Cassidy now.

Her voices is detailed and nuanced with mesmerizing appeal.

I had been never happy as now in my life.

Line Magnetic make really nice amplifiers. It changed my impression of Chinese products.

I used to think that they are making only cheap junk. but not any more.

 

I have a 22-Watt LM 518iA SET, and it is an end game integrated/power amp for my vintage Altec's A7's with it's 845 power tubes.

However, because the A7's have around 100 dB sensitivity, I have been using a small Decware 3.9-Watt Mini Torii that is a SEP (Single Ended Pentode) design.

Decware has some real nice low power amplifier's, but... you have to have the right set of speakers to use these low powered amps.

The LM 518iA can drive the A7's to concert levels with incredible dynamic's. The 508iA is a great amp because of the large class "A" power it can put out, which is double, what the 508iA has.

 

I concur on the solid quality and build of Decware products. I used to use their small 2 watt amplifier paired with Tekton mini Lore speakers in a small bedroom system. The sound was just wonderful. I remember it fondly. Their amps will be on my shortlist again if/when I put together a small office system. I regret selling it to be frank. I've heard the 508 is really really good. Luckily for me with my speakers no need for the extra power. But a dealer was telling me the 508 has a little better grip on the bass, plus a bit of extra smoothness due to the 300b tubes. Either way I'm really happy with what I have. Next up is a new turntable!

 

With your Devore O/96 speakers, I guess you could run them with the 508 and maybe gain a little more dynamics or a bit more on the lower end. But I really could not imagine you needing more that the 22-Watts that the 518 (now the 845) has.

If I want to play music really loud and with large dynamic range, I could use the 518, but for everyday listening the Mini Torii with its 3.9 Watts is more than enough power for the A7's. It only has so much power an is a bit shy on the deeper bass. The A7's are have a -3 dB point at about 47-Hz, so it is a combination of the amp and the bass cabinet.

My main sub is a commercial sub powered by a 1,600 watt Crown amp, but I have a modest Polk 12", 400-Watt sub on the rear system that plays real nice with the A7's and the Decware amp.

I really love this little amp. I can listen to it all day. Between the Decware amps and the Line Magnetic amps, they really have all of the bases covered.

I have not even powered up the Rogue M-150 monoblock's since 2015. SET's and SEP's are really a wonderful thing!

 

After using full range speaker, I got the impression that my Lansche has a real efficiency around 95db/w not 99db/w which is still very high.

But I had to change key capacitors in Silbatone 300B SET after driving it too much in larger listening space.

Thus I stopped using it but keep it in the closet.

 

I need to drop by and visit your closet.

I've had the pleasure of listening to the captivating Apogee Duetta Signature II as @thomaskong mentions (thank you for your post) and the rare Jadis Eurythmie horns (most dynamic I've ever heard with startling pin-point imaging) I've owned the Acoustat 1+1 electrostats, when operating correctly with good amplification, (heavy solid state) I found them to be magical. I've listened to many fine audio components, but not many that exude visceral quality. How great it is to find system synergy, the power of music that can heal, and restore like good medicine.
