I think a better comparison would be to listen to another version of "The Kicker" and A/B it against that. Which, of course, would have to be the cd version. If the Tone Poet is better sounding than the cd version, then its at least an improvement. But I get what you are saying. Hopefully what I posted makes sense also.
Is the pizza place a secret or Imo’s? And co-sign on the RSD Bob James - beautiful record and story behind it!
The next installment of Tone Poets Bobby Hutcherson - Oblique Duke Pearson - The Phantom Art Blakey - Roots and Herbs due out 30 Oct are up at Amazon for preorder 34.98 each
I think my ears were clogged on first listen. Cleaned the record twice and it sounds much better. Sorry for the earlier post. My system is pretty revealing so the cleanings really helped.
Another Tone Poet treat. Picked up Stanley Turrentine’s That’s Where It’s At. Deliciously bluesy. Never heard it before! That’s four Tone Poet releases in the last few weeks.
These latest 4 Tp's are really great. Love the Stanley and Bobby titles. Next lot pre-ordered. Magnificent series.
One bonus from Amazon is they provided digital downloads for both Oblique and Phantom. Thye were in Amazon my music this AM. Not all TP's have had digital downloads, but quite a few. Also, I think Mazzy said it awhile back, Amazon gives you the lowest price from when you order to shipped, so there' that. That said, I don't think they will beat the 27.99 sale at blue note
There are some really good titles in the next pre-orders. Been listening to the titles on stream all morning. I cant say Im passing on any. The Horace Silver I am really enjoying. Oblique is the biggy for me. Maybe the organ one I could pass on, but I even am enjoying it. Some good stuff to trail off this crummy year with. One of the underdogs imo would be Duke Pearson "The Phantom" Im not much on flutes and jazz, but this album is an exception. The playing is really beautiful. I believe the gentleman who is the flautist also played on the sountrack "SuperFly"( a little tidbit recently learned). Plus Duke Pearson called Bobby Hutcherson in specifically for his awesome skills. And just about anything with Mr Hutcherson on it is a buy for me. I have been listening a lot to João Gilberto and other latin music so The Phantom has hit me in the mood. Ive always really liked this album though. Only have it on cd which sounds ok. The originals are difficult to find and expensive. I really hope this one turns out well.
Everyone of my Tone Poets from Amazon has ended up at $26.99, so you can save a dollar over the 20% deal at the Blue Note store. That said, I went with the Blue Note store because it accepts Paypal, and I had some funds available.
Hi Briskit, I looked up St. Kilda and it looks to be destination out! I mean, it looks about as far out to nowhere that is on this planet Would you care to hare a little bit about living on this very remote island and enjoying jazz in St. Kilda?
Lol - whoever is doing the SEO for that little island is doing a good job. That’s the 2nd time I’ve been asked about my “rugged island home” on this forum. I’m in the other St Kilda in Melbourne, Australia. Still pretty windswept, but not much haggis available. Here’s a pic:
