Drums weren’t centered on Pepper title track so there you go.

It’s a vast improvement. Sometime the extractions are perfect, which was never the case with any previous technologies.

Indeed. With a few people, more like an obsession or at least a fixation, I'd say! :shake:

    I don't think that's a spectral extraction but simply a pre-bounce tape.

According to the book, 'Recording The Beatles', the drums, tambourine and acoustic were all recorded to the same track which was combined with the bass during the bounce down.

Recording The Beatles layout makes sense because that would mean the acoustic must have been extracted from the drums and tambourine. It does sound like it. The mid frequencies of the acoustic guitar do come from the left channel in the 1 remix but the sound of the plectrum scratching the strings is in the centre, as if still attached to the tambourine. The extraction is far from being perfect.

The drums on the Pepper title track also sound very muffled for some reason. They do not sound so strange on YSS, and they're also centred there.

YSS remix of pepper is my clear favorite of all mixes if that song.

Listening to Come Together this morning reminded of an old BBC radio show or podcast where the host had dissected the multitracks. It was way back like in 2008 or so and I remember being blown away listening to the elements. The show also covered couple of other Fab tracks, I remember She's Leaving Home in particular.

I am keen to hear that show again but cannot find it anymore. If anyone can help, I would really appreciate a PM. Thanks! :)

Yeah I mentioned the same show about a month ago. I thought I had it saved but can't find it. :(

Long-time Beatles fan here. I just joined this forum mainly to enjoy this Abbey Road thread. Does Mike Carrera have any first-hand observations on the listening event earlier this week? I'd love to hear his learned comments!

It's hard to work out what's what sometimes. They don't advertise any extractions they make (if they do make them - presumably in a very limited way). As a lifelong Beatles fan, I still don't exactly know what's actually in the Abbey Road vaults; for instance, do they have pre-bounce tapes of all material from the start of the four track era onwards? I'm puzzled!

I believe they have almost all of the pre-bounce tapes. Sometimes they are not immediately found, however (e.g. Penny Lane 2017 mix has more stereo separation of some instruments compared to the 2015 mix for this reason).

It's quite something if they have virtually all of the pre-bounces (any particular ones missing?). I hope they do. I've not heard a definitive answer to this question though.

Prior to 66 they mostly just filled the 4 tracks and that was that. No bounces.

How many here have the Atmos set up for the upcoming mix? The Fab4Free4All crew were raving about the Atmos mix on their show post the listening event in NYC.

Unless you have a dedicated HT room, installing ceiling speakers seems like too much trouble. So I am considering upward wiring Atmos speaker modules to put on top of the Fronts.

Anyone else thinking of upgrading to Atmos?

So we are not going to get the lost guitar solo in Here Comes The Sun ?
I haven't seen much discussion on this, short of reading all of the hundreds of posts.

I think that would make for a great outtake.

Considering Apple pushed "Oh Darling" back from yesterday, I wonder when they'll put it out. The only thing I can think of that might have made them push it back would be yesterday's new releases from Taylor Swift and Missy Elliot, both of which are getting a lot of press.
Maybe we'll see "Oh Darling" next Friday? Who knows?

    Timeline for WA remix singles

    September 24, 2018: Back in the U.S.S.R.

October 18, 2018: While My Guitar Gently Weeps (24 days since announcement)

November 1, 2018: Glass Onion (1 week from release)

If we follow this timeline, we should see an “Oh! Darling” single around September 1.

I have added a set of my old bookcase speakers on top of my 2 main ones. They are angled up at about 60° or so and it sounds ok. I would rather have them in the ceiling but it's not possible at the moment. I forgot that my receiver had the ability to decode atmos but that is a plus as that wasn't interesting to me at the time when I bought the reciever. So I am very excited to hear the atmos mix.
