Didn’t Dylan already adopt that infamous vocalisation style on Blonde on Blonde ?

Well - then the thing I’m talking about is different to the thing you are talking about.

Sandy is hard for me, but Richard is a no go.
I do have Heyday (which is half Sandy) and love it.

    You don't like Mr Meine?

You know he's a Bad Boy Running Wild Right? So I really hope you get out of his Wee

I actually really love the Scorps up to about 1984, but his voice is definitely a unique one, somewhat like Geddy Lee in that I can see how it may be off putting to some. I have no problem with it myself however

This is a good one, his vocals are somewhat off putting when I've tried to listen to Family.

Yet on some tracks like Burlesque I think he sounds great

Looking at the principle lead singers for Faiport:

    Ian Matthews
    Judy Dyble
    Sandy Denny
    Richard Thompson
    Dave Swarbrick
    Trevor Lucas
    Simon Nicol
    Chris Leslie

I think they are all outstanding singers. Out of curiosity, what do you find lacking? (Genuine question - respect your opinion!).

What? You don’t find a listicle torrent of gormless disapprobation slagging battalions of mostly brilliant vocalists to be riveting critical commentary?

He started sounding like he gargled with draino and it got progressively worse. Great songs though, but can't tolerate his voice.

Fastway with Dave King. Shrill as all get out. As a big Motorhead fan I still like the band, but not the vocals. And this from someone who likes Lenny’s voice. Go figure!

He's an acquired taste for sure but I fall on the side of those who really like his voice.

    Agreed.

Strangely enough. he's great on Fastway's more commercial third album, Waiting For The Roar, though, and he's been fab with Flogging Molly.

I agree about Richard. He doesn’t have great range, but has a nice tone. And best if all, he’s always on pitch, never flat.

Talking Heads. I'd probably only like selected parts of their catalog even with a different singer but David Byrne's constipated yawp ruins the rest for me.

I think it took a turn for the worse around Street Legal, when he started sounding like Irene Ryan.

He's improved considerably over time. His voice up through Pour Down Like Silver was serviceable at best and needed support from Linda, but it got stronger when he came back a few years later. I think he's simply gotten used to staying within his admittedly limited range. The voice does fit the songs well IMO.

Sounds about right. I love his vocals on Street Legal but they were a bit more, ah, stylized than what was on Blood on the Tracks. By Infidels, the vocalizations that everyone uses for Dylan impressions were firmly in place.

Thanks, I understand now. But, personally, I don't like the way he started singing on Blonde on Blonde.
