I have had his symphony #3 for for many moons and love it. My favourite version thus far is the one at St. Joseph's Oratory in Montreal. The sound is sublime and the organ mates with the orchestra, without even a hint of dominating.

But, outside of that one symphony, I'd never heard anything by Saint-Saens. His works for winds really got to me so I'll be keenly reading up on what my next purchase should be :)

As an aside, I love Bach and have plenty by him (100s of CDs), but I don't have everything he's done (his Cantatas for instance). The Hanssler set is back in circulation for not an obscene amount of money (as it was going for $2000 for a while). How do folks feel about a collected works such as this?

290? You are just a babe in the woods compared to myself and some others around here. I am not bragging BTW....I plan to sell off around a hundred or so within a month or two. I will keep everyone here posted so they can have first dibs. I plan to sell them at the price that will make them move.

I know......if I'd have kept all I sold over the years.....I'd have about 400 maybe.
    Besides Classical I have about 80-85 New Age/Synth CD's about 50 New/Old Jazz and maybe 20 Rock CD's. 30-40 Christan Music CD's.

i have been re-listening to lps that i had played this year, having now cleaned them with
my new Spin Clean, which has considerably improved the listening experience.tonight i
moved on to records i had not yet played, starting with Beethoven's 5th,Carlos Kleiber
conducting the Wiener Philharmoniker,Deutsche Grammophon,1975.tonight this famous
recording sounded a little too fierce for my taste, the lp sound quality somewhat harsh.
i need to listen to my Originals cd copy, which shows a different cover for the original
    album than my copy.

    Now Playing!

Berlioz - Romeo & Juliet, Lorin Maazel cond. The Vienna Phil Orch on Decca.

This is one of my earliest Classical purchases. I bought it in the cutout bins as a single LP when I was 19 or 20, remember those London FFrr labeled LPs that were in fact Decca UK pressings shipped over to the US and packaged with US covers.

    Single LP as shown here:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/BERLIOZ-ROMEO-J...5685244?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item5633c4397c

Then there is the complete 2LP box set, as shown here below:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ROMEO-JULIET-Be...2368799?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item5195033e9f

And then it appears that there was a 2CD set issued on Decca, but I cannot find any listing of a new or used copy. Yet Archiv is selling a CD-R knockoff of it, at least one disc out of the set is this same VPO material.

I would like to find the original CD of this recording. As it is a wonderful sounding 1973 recording, stunning like Decca would be, and passionate performances as well. It was one of the first 3 or 4 Classical purchases I ever made. I have it playing now from that old LP.

    Now playing:

    Beethoven
    Symphonies No. 2 & 7

    New York Philharmonic/Leonard Bernstein
Sony Classical "Bernstein Symphony Edition" set, CD 2 of 60

P.S. It's pretty funny/surreal these days to be an owner of a CD set which seems to be completely sold-out - just a couple months after its release.

Probably not, because 3 of these boxes equal 1 gravestone for Me The Carier.

Moreover, I'm among those lazy/crazy individuals who prefer to share something good-cheap with others instead of making my short life small flat a wholesale depot. Don't forget - we all live in a big financial bubble, and when it finally collapses I want my wings as snow-white as possible...
