My understanding is you can have surround sound on a desktop computer. Has anyone tried that? Given the pint-sized rear speakers, that should be easy to set up ...

Really enjoying this CD, Horowitz and Berman were the first two pianists I listened to when I first ventured into classical music some thirty years ago ...

I just bought the Colin Davis' mega-box, though I doubt I will get the Abbado mega-box. I probably have many of Abbado's recordings in the mega-box.

This LP dates to around 1951/52. Walter Hendl conducts the American Recording Society Orchestra, which I have read is actually the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. The contents were later reissued on a Desto LP & are available as a Naxos download.

You know what I think it is? It takes you to the right page, but then it screws up when it loads any photos on the page. And I think this is due to the fact that all the photos are now being linked instead of inserted. Since they're linked, the software doesn't know in advance how much space they take up on the page and so it can't leave you in exactly the right spot after they've all been loaded. Sounds like a good guess, right? :)

Therefore, if this is a correct guess, then you shouldn't experience the problem when you go to a page with no (linked) photos, which won't happen too often in this thread.

It's their loss. And that sort of demonstrates that most (?) of them are just collectors, less music-lovers. I mean that even within a box of English, French, German and Italian cultures there are more or less clear culture-based differences concerning what is a good interpretation or what is good sound. When they stick to common wisdom of mostly English-speaking world (as I guess they'd do), they loose a lot...

    And that's our gain.

We're getting into hardware here - so George may give us a warning - however, to have surround on a desktop I think you would need special software (like JRiver) and a DAC (presumably external) capable of handling more than two channels. Even then it won't work for SACDs as you cannot play them on a computer.

I finally got around to ripping my complete Maria Callas box set I bought like 3 years ago. It was painful.

    Well, onto my Karajan sets!

^I have those by I Musici. I may actually enjoy them more than the Handel Concerti.

    My favorite version:

The Philharmonia Baroque set of Corelli's Op. 6 Concerti Grossi been re-packaged on a budget series as well:

I have probably played these two discs more than any other set of CDs. Infinitely repeatable performances.

I've got no doubt—Corelli was the master, Handel the disciple.
