Figured making a dedicated thread about it can bring the Abbey Road remix thread back to the remix while directing the debate to a place where it can be focused on by the people who have been focusing on it Personally, I tend to go with the information that is provided by the powers that be, but I can see how some people would say it is Ringo because Paul doesn't stylistically usually play like that
Where was it reported that Paul played drums on this? Ringo drummed on it during Jan 69 rehearsals for sure.
A sound engineer at Abbey Road studios, and I believe (I could be wrong here) worked on the AB50 mix with Giles: Audio Engineers - Sam Okell - Abbey Road 'Abbey Road' Remixed: A Conversation With Giles Martin
The Beatles Bible has Paul as drummer. https://www.beatlesbible.com/songs/old-brown-shoe/ I'll go with that because I trust their source(s).
Thanks for the link, I haven't looked at that site much and it looks to be a Beatles information treasure trove
Another one I'd recommend is Beatles Music History. The in-depth story behind the songs of the Beatles. Recording History. Songwriting History. Song Structure and Style.
I have no idea who it was, or what is particularly stylistically different about their drumming styles, but Paul is lefthanded playing on a right-handed drum kit, just like Ringo, so there are most likely some playing similarities.
I could see it being McCartney The crash hits are a little too aggressive to be Ringo. And people have pointed out some other un-Ringo like drumming in the Abbey Road thread. And the other evidence points to McCartney anyway.
Ringo is playing the drums. And Shakespeare wrote Shakespeare's plays. I'll waste no energy fielding alternative theories to either.
He left the band because Paul threatened to beat him up, John said he wasn't even the best drummer in the Beatles and George was sleeping with his wife...? Also, this kept happening.
He was unavailable for Ballad of John and Yoko due to filming of The Magic Christian - which was also what created deadline for completing Get Back sessions
Ringo could have "taken" Paul. John had a sense of humour. The "affair" was after the Beatles split. That only leaves Yoko. Oh no!
I can see it being either one, stylistically. And while Ringo is by all and any means the tighter drummer of the two, I think Paul's capable of doing the drumming as we hear it on OBS. Even when he got a bit sloppy, Ringo always sounded "on"...but when Paul got sloppy it really showed (as in USSR, IMO). On the other hand, it *is* Paul throughout Dear Prudence and Maybe I'm Amazed...both songs feature excellent, creative drumming. We'll never know for sure unless someone asks Paul and/or Ringo themselves.
Yes. Here's an example. In 2017, question was: "Who sang the Aaaah section in A Day in the Life?" Giles answered: John Sam answered: Paul (Giles answered that question directly on Twitter and Sam mentioned that vocal part in one of the interviews that was also part of an article which had screenshot of the DAW with that song with track named "Paul Aaahs")
