  2. From reports, many eBay accounts seem eligible for this offer. It does appear that the days of straight 15-20% discounts are over.

discounts are pretty much the only way ebay will ever get me to shop there again. sad i'm not eligible for this one!

  7. They were offering 20% straight discounts off the purchase price as recently as 18 months ago. eBay has been gradually tapering their semi-regular coupons the past six months.

Noticed today, that Ebay is collecting sales tax ( NY) on any item I put in my cart.

The end of an era ....

Makes no sense. I'm in Toronto, I have my items shipped to a NY state address from another state. And the sellers are individuals ; not stores or businesses.

What's the logic or reasoning of this? Taxing used goods sold by random people should not happen.

Thankfully, I've already sold most everything I wanted to on Ebay over the past two years.

I agree, it makes no sense collecting sales tax from part time sellers.

To me, that's not the real issue but rather that it's not a business and taxes have already been paid for the item when it was bought the first time. It's akin to charging taxes for items I'd sell on CraigsList because I don't need them anymore.

Fwiw, I just took a look at Amazon market place. All the listings for used items sold to a NY address have an estimated sales tax as well.

Craiglist is more of a person to person site, and tracking sales for the purpose of raising tax revenue would be impossible.

ummm... so r u suggesting people don't (or shouldn't) pay sales tax on a used car? Used items are not excluded from sales tax.

Take it somewhere else. Nobody looking for deals cares what you think of taxes. Really, they don't.

They word that weird. It makes it sound like it's only good for your first EVER purchase on eBay, like for new customers only. But what they mean is, you can only use it once.

Thanks! I actually thought that until the registered customer bit, which makes it seem like it really IS only for newbies.
