Just thought of checking my bookmarks for old Steve quotes and found a couple.

Here's Steve's impressions of the original 80's Led Zeppelin CDs (and by implication the remasters):

Here's a on that's not strictly about a specific mastering but rather Steve's take on the stereo With the Beatles versus the mono.

Great links, thanks guys. I was interested to see the Nashville Skyline SACD mentioned, because those discs in general seem to have inconsistent reviews.

Old RCA/Pair discs. SH called these 'flat transfers' in an old thread, IIRC. Sounds like it to me, natural sounding and unfutzed-with. Of course, these are hard-to-come-by and considered esoteric in 2011.

A double play equal to two lps, but still timing out at 43 minutes.

Steve says: "Old OJC CD from 1988 or so. Flat transfer."

This is an LP that really impressed me at the California HiFi Show last year in Emeryville. Someone brought the Blue Note along and played it on a very nice system from the importer Brian Ackermann.

Recently, someone on this forum sold the XRCD, which I missed. Good to know that Steve believes this to be a flat transfer - I have some more options.
