That song is from his brilliant first album, will need go back and give it a listen. Only Leo K could name a song such, funny guy. That was always my favorite Cactus, it just sounded really good.
Giving this one a spin, the comments are a c & p from something I posted earlier from somewhere else, because I'm out of redundant gab gas, so I violated my very own copyright comment I guess. lol Zevon's first real album on Asylum was a brilliant lp that carried the reverence of The Band, and the boundless rock and roll of the Stones. It gave the LA scene some high tide respect in 1976. Everybody wanted to help out on this because they knew Zev had something special. This album and the next one were special.
Yeah, since I'm picking thru the west coast scene, but it's still a good record and besides, one of my favorite axemen plays on it who was not an original bird and it's not Felder (tho' i like him too). Teenage Jail sure is a weird Eagle song. Were they trying to go prog on that song?
That's a hell of an album that I should add to my collection one day. The only Kottke I have is four tracks from the Leo Kottke, Peter Lang & John Fahey album.
I might recommend two in particular and it is solely because I love them, it was a good period for him and they both have a lot of personality. Those would be: Mudlark and Chewing Pine (and he sings some on both).
Such a marvelous albums. I've always found funny that Pete doesn't even play on "Forever's No Time At All". I prefer the UK version. Excellent album.
Watching Frank playing on 10/31/81. An excerpt from the DVD booklet liner notes written by bassist Scott Thunes: (...) Ed was from Long Island, and he brought with him a deep love for Aynsley Dunbar and the two drummers for that San Francisco band that I can't recall the name of (but who had no love for Frank or his music, even though one of them was a 'schooled' composer. I recall a story where they double-billed and during Frank's set they all sat in the front row and blew pot smokes at him. Poor guy. We did one extremely rare double-billed concert with their leader, the guy in the big black t-shirt. What was his name?). Whatever... Good musician, anyway.
Its getting chippy cold outside and stepping out for a moment right into it for a minstrel's thought, and a smoke... time for Tull. Flying so high, trying to remember how many cigarettes did I bring along? ``ia/cry me a song
Last Friday I made the last two purchases of 2017. Japanese editions of Miles Davis' Agharta and Pangaea. Amazing sound, listening right now:
And to think that both of those were recorded in one single day... Fantastic records. I'm on the ninth disc of the Larks box now. What a lovely thing this is. Downloading the Rainbow gig as I write. Have to listen to that minute or so...
Yup. Those two are probably the greatest singer-songwriter stuff ever. Because of the quality of the melodies and lyrics, the sheer balls of the way the guy presented himself and not least in that they still rock hard (but in a somewhat mellow way). Underrated record. Sleazy and dark. I love it.
I've detected quite a few nasty rumours concerning this and I will be more than happy to join the 'what can never be unheard' club in 55 minutes time.
It sure is, on both accounts. I like Wetton in KC about 50% better each nanosecond I hear him sing or play, I think. That first take of "Exiles" is just majestic (too short, tho).
Hahahahahahahahaahaahahaahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahah. I just listened to King Crimson live at the Rainbow. I think. Nah, I've heard worse. I think (again). At least the bass almost cuts thru. I lasted approx. 181 seconds which I think is some sort of record.
"- listener beware -audio for this show is of such poor quality as to be beyond meaningful restoration and is included solely for historic purposes". Had it been the first recording ever done in the history of mankind, I wouldn't have been enough to justify its inclusion
Those early recordings on wax do not sound as bad as this. And I've also got a gazilion blues, country and jazz tracks from the '20's. Compared to this, they are hifi. I can see why they 'included' it but who the Hell would want to listen to it all the way thru? Still, it makes the other ones sound better. Maybe that is why...
