Last night I installed a Monarchy Audio 24/96 DIP anti-jitter device in my system. I put my DCC of the “The Doors” in my player and sat down to listen to some tunes. Before I hit play I noticed a strange hummmmmmm coming from my speakers. The odd thing is that the hum was totally independent of my receiver’s volume control. Since my system never hummed before, I surmised that the DIP was the problem. Sure enough, when I unplugged the DIP, the hum disappeared. What to do, what to do, what to do. Then I remembered something I read about ground loops and cheater plugs. I installed a cheater plug (converts a grounded plug to a two prong plug) and the hum went away. What a simple, inexpensive fix.
