Astonishing to think that this album has 6 songs making the top 20 in the US----for the most part, a year or more after they were recorded (I Saw Her Standing There was just shy of a year old when it hit the chart).

I don't get the hate for Boys. It Rocks! And when you figure the finished it off in the back of a taxi do the Stones could use it, not a bad cab ride.

This and For Sale are two great albums, in fact I got to listen to both full blast while the Mrs was shopping. Not a bad night at all...... Pax

You can further mention "There's A Place" if you expand the boundaries to mention all of the Billboard Hot 100. TAP made it to #74 for one week. That's half the album on the Billboard Hot 100.

Back in the early sixties, a friend of mine lent me his tape recorder (a rare item then) along with some commercial tapes he had bought, and one of them was "Please Please Me".

So, I first heard this album on reel-to-reel tape and I had it for about three weeks and was blown away by the raw energy of those guys. I couldn't afford to buy my own vinyl copy until a couple of years later. I now own four copies, that vinyl, the 87 CD and the 2009 stereo and mono CDs.

Oh - and I've also created a "live" version from the two volumes of BBC recordings!
    My favourite track?
I think it has to be "Ask Me Why" (but don't ask me why.) ;)

you know what I Am mixed up ain't I? But that's ok I'm crazy anyways and mixed up goes with the territory :goodie:. I love them both anyways. But yeah it was I Wanna Be Your Man. Mick & Kieth shared a ride with John & Paul and asked if they had a song or something like that. I can't remember where i heard that, but it sounds impressive. To me anyways. Polishing a song off in the back of a cab ride...... Yeah that's groovy. Pax

A great album for it's time. But after listening to all of the BBC material out there, I wish the cover songs could have been different.

Some Other Guy should have been on this LP

    Great topic.

The tracks I listed below are my most Fab songs/performances. To me, these always sound fresh.

"The world is treating me bad", somehow jumps out of the speakers, with youthful energy.

I am skipping the ground breaking Opening (17 - “We just about know it") and Closing Track (Twist - "Rattle Jewelry") and bypassing the first two A-Side Singles: (Love Me Do/Please Please Me).

PS. Was thinking of “Rattle Jewelry" comment after recent good news: Queen Eliz looks amazing @ 91 and "Sir Richard”. With JL returning MBE to Her Majesty for Biafra thing, Vietnam and Cold Turkey slipping down charts in 1969, even if John had lived (and mellowed in 2018), I don’t believe the UK would bestow “Sir" John Winston Ono. Too much controversy: 'The Rutles' were bigger than Rod.

Back to PPM (produced by ‘Sir' George M).

I am always eager to hear these:
Misery (John) w/ Sir George Martin piano
Anna (John) Imaginary Session: I would have enjoyed hearing John attempt to sing Arthur Alexander’s: ‘You Better Move On'
Ask Me Why (John) 1962 performance, a moving JL vocal
PS I Love You (Sir Paul) But I love George’s 9th chord ending, only available on 'Live at BBC'
Baby It's You (John) - w/ Sir George Martin on celesta !
Do You Want To Know A Secret (George) John composition. “Doo-Dah-Doo"
There's A Place (John). I like the Brian Wilson 'In My Room’ comparison, stated by 'Mr. Grieves’.

    The covers have aged well.

The only track I can really do without is Do You Want to Know a Secret.....rare Lennon fluff.....

No he didn’t. It was their standard repetoire by that point. Surviving setlists prove this.

I believe his input if any was having them do so many originals. He definitely encouraged them writing more and including more in their regular sets.
